Repair Stand Experience

Anyone had any experience with repair stands? Specifically, I am wondering about a seat post clamp stand vs. a bottom bracket clamp stand. Any pros and cons will be greatly appreciated.

The Park Team Race style work stand is a very nice stand designed to help mechanics work on bikes with super lite weight frames and seat posts. Able to wash and adjust complete bikes. It is fairly stable. I personally like the traditional style (able to clamp onto frame/seat post) because when I work on the bike I can rotate the whole bike 360 degrees. This allow me more ability to work on the bike while standing up more than on the work stand that cradles the frame. My favorite brand out there is Ultimate Support. At my shop I mostly use Ultimate Support and Trax brand work stands. I sold my Park Deluxe Single Arm work stand (just rarely used it any more) when I moved here to Raleigh. I think that the Park Deluxe single/double Arm work stand is one of the finest stands on the market - just ask most bike shops. I finally desided on Ultimate Support and Tacx because I am able to be much more mobile. These work stands fold up to be able to carry very easily and fast. The Park Deluxe models with their 68 lb or 118 lb base plate does not get moved far or fast. TLC for Bikes offers many repair stands- Park , Tacx , Ultimate Support , Pedro's , Sunlite , Topear , Minoura and others. Contact Gary (TLC4Bikes) via PM or @ iamnofred@aol.com anytime if you have any questions.

What would you recommend for frames with no traditional tubes? I am beginning a build of a Felt AR and there are limited clamping options (3:1 aero down tube, seat tube, seat post, ovalized top tube). My current stand (Spin Doctor) has a clamp that will not open up large enough to clamp the down tube and I'm not sure it would hold it well enough anyway due to the shape of the tube.. I definitely need a new repair stand, but might have to contact the Garmin team mechanics to see what they use...'cuz I haven't found one that works or would appear to work.

The Park PRS-20 work stand is a new design for Park (I had this type of work stand back in the early 80's - it was a cheaper version by another manufacturer). The Park PRS-20 is a nice work stand. Retails for around $170 to over $200 depending on where you go. This stand will hold your bike without clamping the frame or seat post. If you have a interest contact me @ either 919-324-4966 or iamnofred@aol.com or a PM through the TC site. I will give you a club discount. Check out the Park PRS-20.

i have one of the cheap BB-style stand that i absolutely loathe. until it becomes totally unusable i will keep suffering. it has been a good 4+ years at this point though. i can clearly justify spending the 150$+ dollars to replace it on a multitude of other shiny bits, so i guess it isnt entirely bad. it lets me clean and lube without hunching over and i suppose that is as much as i could really ask. basically its like a bad relationship. . .

TLC...very good call on the PRS-20, that's exactly what I needed. Didn't know someone actually made something like that. Other similar type stands in that configuration have always been home-made in the back of old neighborhood shops, but glad to see I don;t need to weld some pipes together for something similar.
