Cyclist killed today in Apex

from WRAL
A bicyclist was killed after a collision involving a vehicle at the intersection of S. Salem Street and Apex Barbecue Road just after noon on Saturday, Apex police said.

The cyclist was identified as Bruce W. Rosar, 52, of Cary.

It appears that that several vehicles may have witnessed the accident but did not stop, Police Capt. Ann Stephens said. Stephens is urging anyone who witnessed the wreck to call the Apex Police Department at 919-362-8661.

I've ridden with Bruce and his wife in the local tandem group. Bruce is a tireless advocate for safety. If there's no mistake in this early news report, this is a terrible loss for the triangle area.

Sure accidents can happen but how can people witness such an event and just drive by. Boy our society sure is sad.

Bruce

Hello Ester,

I was on the ride with Bruce today but did not see the accident. There were two cyclists who witnessed the collision and both said that Bruce didn't see the car. I seriously find that hard to believe because Bruce was the safest cyclist around. He had been riding for many, many years and was the strongest cycling advocate in the area.

This is a horrible tragedy not only for his family but for all of us.

The intersection where Bruce was killed is very busy and dangerous. It doesn't make sense that Bruce didn't see an on coming car.

I hope CSH changes that route!

Wendy

Yea, the stupid Apex police were parked along the route checking us out as we road by. Probably waiting to ticket some cyclist for not hugging the white line. I really want to boycott riding in Apex! The police surely have something else to do.

This is horrible. Bruce was a good guy and knew how to ride in any sort of traffic. He was the last person I would have imagined not seeing a car. My thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

I can't even believe this. He would send out all those emails advocating bike safety on the road. He just sent out the email about those a**hole apex cops last week. Although I've never met him personally, it deeply saddens me that one of my internet friends has been taken from this world....by something he fought so hard against happening to all of us.
