The only way you can get the politicians to see our side of things are to do one of the following:

1) Lean on the bike shops and other local businesses to get them to pressure the local officials to change and enforce the laws.

2) Get lots of money and pay off the local officials to do what you want.

Point being, money talks and BS walks.

You could always email the mayor of Apex your thoughts and concerns, especially beings that their own police officers are buzzing cyclists.

Try to be nice.

To that end, I have already contacted one of the shops in Apex. I plan to contact the other this weekend.

Here's the similar apex herald story:
http://www.theapexherald.com/pages/f...et=push&open=&

It is good to know the police in my town are targeting me.

I don't know, but with the emails I have gotten and the "news" article a good lawyer could probably get your ticket dropped for profiling.

I would suggest any of us that are residents of Apex approach the City Coucil or a member and discuss our concerns, as a collective group. Also, how about we vote one of ours in! And for that matter why don't we just start a new party, I'm tired of the other 2! Grassroots on 2 wheels! We are the retired, we are CPA's , electricians, stay at home mom's, lawyers, bankers, brokers, grandmas, college students..we are the community and our voice matters as much as anyone's and should not be pushed around.

I think the reason why this is getting press and the police are acting on it is because drivers are probably calling the police or reporting it. I say we do the same thing. They get enough reports and someone is going to start noticing it.

FYI: I just submitted a comment, very similar to the following, for that Apex Herald piece. We'll see if the editors publish it.

Quote:
Framing this campaign against a class of road users as a "safety"
issue is misleading. Motoring is what causes fatalities and serious injuries to
multiple individuals, not bicycling or any other non-motoring means of travel.

The real issue here is some folks who are upset when they're delayed while
passing groups of cyclists. Cyclists often prefer to ride in groups because
they distrust those who are operating devices so dangerous that a license is
required: motor vehicles. If you had to decide between your safety and
someone else's inconvenience, which would you choose?

BTW, traveling more than two abreast doesn't directly increase crash risk.
Three abreast travel by motorists is occuring right now on roads such as NC
55, US 64, etc.

FYI: DOT's guide to cycling law has errors. See NCCBD's critique for details:
http://humantransport.org/bicycledri...e_critique.pdf
BTW, don't click on the "thumbs" icon. Apparently you cannot give an article a "thumbs down", only an "up".

P.S. If you signup for an Apex Herald account in order to make a comment, you'll have to edit your account preferences in order to unsubscribe from a dozen or so email/texting subscriptions.

Good ideas! Here's another option: join and actively partipate in the NC Active Transportation Alliance.

I'm telling ya, a truck load of money will work better.

Like your comments you posted. Mine had more 4 letter words in it. I'm sure my house will be raided tomorrow. Luckily I won't be here. I'll be riding my bike.
