Antioch Church - 6/27

Here is the link for this weeks route.

For those of you used to the flatlands, this route should be a shock to you. All of the routes that stay on the north side of 42 are pretty hilly. This route actually goes up Flower Hill which I was told is the steepest hill in JoCo. Thankfully its not very long but it is incredibly steep.

This is actually probably the hilliest route we'll do out there all year. Antioch Church Rd is no fun. Its got a triple hump hill that makes it very hard to recover when youre trying to keep up with a pack.

Flower Hill is what it is. Its uber steep as soon as you turn on to it. However, farther down there is another pretty good hill that is longer, just not quite as steep.

Ive ridden in way worse places, Im just saying, for people that think its all flat out there, they're gonna be in for a rude awakening.

I rode this route for the first time last year. If I recall correctly it's called Antioch Church 'B'. I remember thinking afterward that the 'B' stands for B**ch.

Cool

I had a really good ride - at this point I have to just accept the fact that I can not pedal the trike faster than 21 mph with the gearing I currently have - I hope to improve the gearing.
Once again WELL DONE Selma Cyclepath. A well done well supported training ride. Turtle had her first flat today at 1300 miles.
I really like the route some really good and mostly good roads. The worst road is Thanksgiving - I really do not like the southern part of that road - it is like riding on a wash board - I know there is no other route but I wish there was.

There really arent a lot of ways back to The Grocery Bag since we've abandoned Buffalo. The routes could return via Jordan Narron all the way back from 96 but for some routes that just isnt practical. There is an alternative once you start up Thanksgiving tho. That first turn to the left after you go by Popeye's will take you around to another road that dumps you back on Jordan Narron right before the big climb. We went that way once last year. Its not very heavily traveled.. I dont know why it wasnt incorporated into any of the routes this year.

I still ride Buffalo from time to time and I agree that it was the right decision to abandon it. Its just gotten way too busy and every incident Ive ever had riding out that way occurs on Buffalo.

Met some old freinds at Wake County Speedway friday night before Antioch Church B. Had a greasy cheese burger, fries and pizza.
BIG mistake, HUGE.
The next morning I hung on but had no speed. Flower Hill is a real PITA cause you have to slow down just before making that big right turn, and there it is.
On the plus side, the rides with Slow Spokes are paying off. I was pleased that I cleared Flower Hill without reaching for the triple. In fact I didn't have to reach for the granny. By the time we reached Jordon Narron I was spent. I waived so long to the pack as they sped away and crawled in, still managing to stay off the triple. Then I ran to the Grocery Bag to use the facility, (you don't want to know the details).
That's is certainly the last time I have Raceway burgers the night before a ride.
