Filter new posts?

I like the "new posts" feature - I can log on and quickly see all new posts since I last visited. Unfortunately, since this forum also pulls in the various rec.bicycle groups I'm forced to wade through a zillion of those posts just to see the local content which is what I use this board for. If I'm away for a while all those rec.bicycle posts really pile up and I'm not willing to sit through screen after screen of them to see the few new local posts so I just give up and "mark all posts read".
I've seen on other boards the ability to limit your search criteria to specific areas of the forum. I can do that here for specific searches but it doesn't seem to apply to "new posts" like it does on other boards I've used. Can that be enabled or is there a workaround I can use? I can't remember if VBulletin does that or not.

huh ?

I am not an adminstrator or even a knowledgable user, just an ingnorant one, but huh?

When I come to this forum, there is "Site News" at top,

then "Triangle Cycling" with "Road Biking", "Rides/Meet-ups", "Cue Sheets", etc.,

then "Group Forums" which is where the "Slow Spokes" is /are,

then something about local rides,

then the "Rec." stuff segregated from the "local" stuff.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each "section" will be bold or not, depending on whether there is anything new since last visit. Within each section, threads will be bold or not depending on whether anything in that thread is new. Within each thread, only the posts made since last check will be bold.

I have no need to wade through the "offsite" stuff unless I specifically go there. I don't even have to wade through "local" stuff in which I have no interest.

Maybe the "new posts" thing is not what you really need. But - I freely admit - I don't understand what you were writing about.

I have no problem only noting the new posts in the "local" areas and only checking there if I so desire.

If you click New Posts, it shows you all the posts made on the site. I thought it would have removed those since they are not indexed into the search engine.

This may be a 3.7 specific quirk and Ive emailed the VB people about a workaround.

Yes - your method works fine. I just like the convenience of the "New Posts" link on the top of the main page of the forums which runs a search for all posts that have been since your last visit and displays them on one page for quick viewing without having to enter each section of the forum. And as JayC pointed out it may be a bug that the imported posts from rec.bicycles are showing up, too, which is what I was wondering about.

Some Vb trickery and it should be fixed.

Ya .... this must have just started as I never used to see the Rec.Bicycles.Tech when I clicked New Posts. I would think it is a bug as I really just want to see the new posts for Triangle Cycling.

This happened once before when Jay upgraded the vB software. It took a couple of days to get it fixed, but eventually, it was fixed. Like Skif, I had never used that feature until the last time someone posted that all of the rec.bicycles.tech posts were showing up. Once I found out about the "New Posts" feature, I have been using it regularly. When it only indexes the TriangleCycling.com posts, it is a very useful feature.

I think a hole has re-opened as there are again threads from what are clearly marketing "spammers" appearing on the forums.
