Google Maps

Distance:
Varies each week based on sunset and turn around time

Cue Sheets:
Provided at ride. A different route each week.

Riding Pace Options:
1) Beginner group [under 12 mph] or 12-14 mph group [NO DROP]
2) Form your own group at whatever pace you would like. See Slow Spokes Rider List for a list of riders and their paces.
3) Ride on your own in the individual time trial mode of the Oh Melo Velo fast riders.

Ride Leaders:
Me, Rick, Michelle, Bess, Angie M., Andrea, Rebekah, Betsy, Brian J., Perry, Susan B., Susan H. and Elizabeth will alternate leading the beginner groups this year. Zonda will lead the beginner group [under 12 mph]. Michelle will lead the 12-14 mph group.

Ride Description:
The Oh Melo Velo (OMV) ride is a time trial-type ride [17-21 mph] that has been ongoing for more than 20 years. David Cole and Ed Downing lead the ride. This is the third year the Slow Spokes have participated to lead slow groups [any pace up to 20 mph].

The routes are out and back. You ride ˝ the time til sunset, U-turn and finish at sunset. The routes are chosen and cue sheets provided by David and Ed, and not by the Slow Spokes. Thus, cue sheets are not available until the time of the ride. The cue sheet identifies the turn around time each week.

These rides will include some roads with heavy traffic and some hills. We maintain safe riding practices, but these are open road rides and might not be suitable for those who have a fear of riding on the road. The beginner and 12 to 14 mph groups are NO DROP and we will provide experienced leaders and will not leave anyone unattended in this group.

Some riders go to the MacGregor Draft House after the ride. All are welcome to join us.

Contact Person: Zonda. Send me an email through this site if you have any questions.

Comments:
· Slow Spokes join the Oh Melo Velo riders to lead a slow group.
· If this is your first OMV ride, see Ed before the ride start to fill out his liability waiver. This is a different waiver than you signed for Slow Spokes rides.
· At the request of the OMV fast group leaders, we have made some changes this year due to the growth of Slow Spokes attending this ride. A thread is posted explaining changes for 2008. Please see the thread for additional details regarding riding groups.
· Beginners are welcome to join this ride.
· RSVP requested for beginners’ and 12-14 mph riding groups only. Faster riders may RSVP to help find riders riding at their pace.
· Please arrive in time to prepare your bike to leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. If you arrive late, David or Ed will leave cue sheets on their car back window under the wiper blade.
· New riders should read Bicycling Hand Signals and Safety Pointers and Ride Preparation - Equipment, Nutrition, Hydration
· All riders should carry proper equipment in case they have a flat (spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridge). Helmets required.
· It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver’s license, health insurance card (or a photo copy), emergency contact information or Road I.D. in case of an emergency. You may also want to program your cell phone with an emergency contact number under the name “ICE” In Case of Emergency.

I unfortunately will only be able to make this ride every two weeks because I have my daughter every other week. I will hope to join you all June 4. Thanks

I used to have a schedule like that with my kids a couple of years ago. It's not easy; I can certainly relate to the schedule. Glad that you can make it out when you can; I wish I would have found this group a long time ago, it would have helped with my sanity.

I'm in! I will go with the 12-14 mph group, until the hills, because gravity still isn't my friend! Looking forward to another great group ride!

Weather permitting, I will be there. Right now, they are predicting a 50% chance of rain. I will go any speed up to about 17 mph.

No ride for me next week, though. I will be out of the country on business. That pesky day job gets in the way sometimes, but it is necessary to support my cycling habit.

If the weather holds out I will ride with Michelle, Brian with the speedsters. Hopefully the rain will hold out, but it's not looking promising.
