Soul,

I'm looking for longer rides too, but not sure if I'm up for a 100. Depending on day and time (weather or course) I might hang with you for a while (40, 50, 75?). As of right now the 16 and 30 work for me.

Anyone else interested?

Perry

I have no problem posting a ride on this forum. I have no problem showing up for a ride. Well, maybe I'll have to be there a little earlier . Where I DO have a problem is the liability waiver. If we can work out the legal stuff, and if I can get two or three others to agree to co-lead this ride or share rides like having a ride in Wendell or Clayton I have no problem stepping up. But, we have to work out the details and I have to know what the limitations are. If its a ride posted here that I'm hosting, I'm not interested. If its a Slow Spokes group ride and we need a leader or leaders for the winter months, I'm interested, especially if I can get a couple others to co-lead.

Someone volunteers to lead a ride and either collects the waivers at the ride or asks someone else to to it. I keep track of all waivers, but if I'm not there, someone else does that. I have hardly ridden this year due to work commitments and aging parent issues. I don't see that changing for 2010.

These are one in the same, someone hosting a ride here/a scheduled SS ride. If you post a ride in the SS section, it is assumed that you want to follow a no drop policy and the SS concept. If you post in Rides/Meetups, it can be whatever you want. The past year I tried to find ride leaders, but it's difficult to find volunteers.

SS is a group of riders, just like you, Carlos and Goodnessoffit who either ride or volunteer their time to lead rides and keep the group going. Other than SS being a subculture of NCBC and requiring each of us to sign a liability waiver annually for insurance purposes, we are just a group of riders. There's no formal structure that obligates anyone to lead rides. It's all volunteer efforts. The regulars who led rides since 2005 have had other commitments, so we need people to volunteer to lead rides following the SS concept.

It would be nice if I could spearhead things as I did the first four years of SS, but I don't have the same amount of free time I've had in previous years. I was out of town 7 weeks over the summer, so volunteering my time wasn't possible. If we don't get new blood to volunteer as leaders, then the group will slowly fade away. Rick committed to lead the Thurs. ride one more season. We are at a point where we need others to volunteer their time to keep this going.
