Are the rides shown on the January 2009 the Slow Spokes ones? I only see one for 9:30 a.m., not 6:00 p.m. I want to try to find the slowest, easiest ones to start with--I'm afraid even those will get tired of waiting for me to drag myself up the slightest hill.

Regular Slow Spokes rides start back in March. There will be a few Slow Spokes no drop rides on Sunday every now and then. There aren't many slower paced rides right now.

Several people asked me about upcoming rides this year when they picked up their jersey. This thread explains our plans for 2009. See post #1. The new Thursday ride starts March 12 and will be led by Rick F. I will take a turn as sweeper.

Also, after four years doing this, I'm taking time off. I don't plan to organize any rides this year. I may organize a ride every now and then, but may not.

Since I haven't been organizing regular rides, I haven't logged as many miles and noticed others haven't either. This year (more actively starting in March) I will act as a ride coordinator trying to find folks to organize weekend rides in their area so that we have more regular rides planned.

I'm asking those who have benefited from the Slow Spokes to lead a ride in your area. It's always nice to ride in other places. We have plenty of cue sheets from many locations in the Cue Sheet section. You can copy any of the ride announcements to revise or email me and I'll send you the Word version. Gayle L. said she would be interested in leading rides from CSH, which is an old favorite stomping ground of ours.

Please invite us to ride from your favorite location so that we can continue offering regular Slow Spokes no-drop rides. We have a lot of people, but not enough ride organizers to fill the calendar. If we have a lot of people organize one ride, we will have somewhere to ride every weekend and log more miles this year.

If you have any questions about how to organize a ride or want to volunteer, email me.

Quick question...who will be the keeper of the 2009 waiver file? Whoever is coordinating rides (especially early in the year) will need to know who has waivers and who doesn't. Not to make it complicated, but it would be helpful to have them in one central place, maybe keep an updated list on a Word or Excel file that can be e-mailed to ride coordinators to help them out. I don't mind volunteering, unless someone else wants to do it.

I will keep the file and prepare the Word document with the list. I can email the list to the ride organizer before rides. Thanks offering to handle it.

It is only six weeks until the start of the new Thursday rides. With the unfortunate closing of The Spin Cycle, the opportunity for quality beginner rides has been reduced. The Tuesday Spin Cycle ride that Kevin led was the best run, most fun, and most educational beginner ride in the area. I am not Kevin, but I am going to try to make the new Thursday Slow Spokes ride the premier beginner ride in the Triangle.

As Zonda alluded to in the first post in this thread, we have taken what worked best from the OMV rides and combined those features with what worked best from The Spin Cycle Tuesday beginner ride. At the time we made the decision to have the Thursday Slow Spokes ride, I was hoping it would be supplemental to Kevin's Tuesday ride and an opportunity for those who had other commitments on Tuesday, another option for when Tuesday was rained out, and an option for those who wanted more than one beginner ride per week. Now, my goal is to make this ride THE beginner ride.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you on the road.
