For those who like to plan ahead, attached is a chart that shows the turnaround time, the actual time we have to ride, and how far we can go at average paces of 10 mph, 12 mph, 14 mph, and 16 mph for each date.

Rick: thanks for the info. I find it very helpful and informative. Quick Question - Do you know what day we move the time ahead 1 hour? Is that what you base your ride on after we move the clocks ahead. Thanks

Daylight Saving Time begins on March 8, when we go from 00:59:59 to 02:00:00, and ends on November 1 when we go from 01:59:59 back to 01:00:00.

We start the rides in the spring on the Thursday after Daylight Saving Time begins, but we end on the last Thursday in September, since for some reason, Daylight Saving Time is not symetrical around the summer solstice. By the last Thursday in September, sunset is already sooner than it is on March 12, even though there is another month before we turn the clocks back.

Very nice. This will be helpful for the new riders to see that riding at their slower pace will cut the distance and hopefully encourage them to come on out and join us. Beneficial to the higher pace to plan training. Thank you!

I'm really looking forward to joining these rides. Is it ok to join you even if you can't make the first few Thursdays? Thanks for all the info.

Absolutely. No one makes it to all of the rides. The sooner you come out, though, the better it will be for you, since we ride until sunset each week. Than means we will be going longer and farther each week through July 2.

And before someone jumps in to tell me that June 21 is the longest day of the year, for reasons that I cannot explain, the sun starts rising later before it starts setting earlier. The sun sets at 8:35 on June 25 and July 2.

I would like to know where and what time the group meets
on Thurs. I will work on my pace which needs improvement. Looking forward to riding with you folks again.

I post a ride announcement each week in the Slow Spokes Forum. The announcement for this week's ride is here.

The group meets between the Wachovia and the Mexican Restaurant in MacGregor Village Shopping Center (at the intersection of US 64 and Edinburgh Drive in Cary). We leave promptly at 6:00 PM on Thursday evenings.
