New to Slow Spokes/Group Riding

Rick,
I was wondering if you could tell me if I'd be able to make the Slow Spokes Saturday ride. I have a Giant Dash. My riding consists of periodic rides of 11-25 miles and I think I average about 12-14 mph. I completed the MS Bike Ride in New Bern this year, riding 30 miles the 1st day & 50 miles the 2nd day. My main concern is the hills. I'm decent at even terrain, but hills tend to kill me. I make it up them, but it's a slow speed. Also, I need to get in some long rides since I signed up for a 50 miler in November.
Thanks,
Wendy M.

Wendy,

I have been sick for the past week, so it is unlikely I will ride on the 31st. Check this thread to see who is planning to ride on Saturday. If Perry is able to ride, you will have no problems. Many folks are slow going up the hills.

I have selected the routes to avoid the most difficult hills. As you know, there is nothing in Wake County that is completely flat, but these are not what I would consider hilly routes. There are a few hills, but everyone will wait for you at the top.

On the 24th, three went out, three came back, Jeff, Jim and myself. We all rode the 38 mile loop, average speed was 16.0 MPH, no one felt like pushing it given the weather. Yes, we got wet, but not bad. Rooster tails were the biggest problem.
