I live in CA but I have a brother in N. Raleigh that I visit somewhat regularly. He's a MTB guy but I'm a roadie. I'd like to try to hit some decent road climbs next time I'm out visiting with my road bike, but I don't really know what's good and what's not. He's near Creedmoor/50 and Lynn Rd. Thx...
That area has some really good hills.. you won't be disappointed.
Pretty much anything on that side of 98 is going to have some hills.
The Gyros ride in that area and have some cue sheets up on that site. I rode out there once and while I'm pretty sure I was having an off day to begin with, those rodes just about killed me.
Here's a link to their cue sheet page.

I suggest going to the NCBC website & pulling up their list of cue sheets. Look for anything named "hilly" or "assault on ...". Anything headed to Bahama, Mt Energy, Flat Rock will give you lots of short hills. Not hills by CA standards or even Winston-Salem standards, but you won't find very much that an Illinois prairie dog would call flat.
