View Full Version : No riding tomorrow
I had decided I was going to try to do some kind of ride tomorrow because it looks like the last warm day for quite a while. Just checked the forecast again, they're calling for 20-30 MPH WINDS!!!
Looks like tomorrow will be a gym day :(

I'm right there with you on the gym idea. Gunna go finish off the legs with some squats  (no mercy for the weak).
Yea.. you'd freakin get blown off the bike tomorrow sounds like. I saw where the Gyros are going to do a ride. More power to them.

Bah!
And tomorrow looked like the best day for a bike-commute this week!
Maybe I will just bike 2 miles, and take the bus to work, so that I can say I did a bike-commute in January.....

I go to what used to be called Beyond Fitness. I think they are Peak Fitness now.

gonna get a peak fitness here in clayton. i just don't like the yearly contracts they want you to sign, cuz invariably, i quit going. but, they are gonna be open 24hr, so maybe i could train myself to get up early and go...
i was a member of rex wellness, but they didnt' open early enough and it's hard to do after work with kids, fixing supper, other family stuff. i would most likely go in the early AM and have it over with so other stuff can get done in evenings.

wow, I would have thought 5:30 am would have been early enough but I don't have a family to plan around.

Karen, you can do it. I'm at the gym sometimes at 4:00 a.m. It's better to get it over with early then you can relax after work or ride:D

i would rather get there at 5-5:15am, workout 45-60min, go home & shower, then get to work. i have to be at work at 7am. prefer to shower at home as i know what kind of germs are in my bathroom - the good ones :p ....it's only 2 miles to the gym from my house.
Rex is kinda expensive tho, or it was when i went. like $50 or something for individual. don't know what it's gonna be at Peak; before Peak took over, it was $35 for individual.
Is there a Peak in Clayton?
Going month to month isnt your best option for a gym membership. You always save a lot more if you bite the bullet and pay for several years.
When I signed up at Peak, I paid $399.00 for 36 months, roughly $11.00 a month.

yea, the place that was Clayton Fitness, changed to Total Results, and they have been bought by Peak Fitness.
how often do you go? does this frequency change a lot during the summer months?
When Im not riding, I go 5-6 days a week. When Im riding, it depends. In the summer, Ill only go to the gym if it's raining and I need to get a workout in. Here lately it's been really tough to schedule gym visits because of the weather. Ive been riding so much and trying to take advantage of every opportunity to ride that Ive only been going at most one day a week. Now that it looks like the weather is going back in the crapper, I expect to go back to my 5-6 days a week routine.
I'm going to train smarter this winter than I have in years past. Usually I go in the gym and kill myself for 90 minutes then drag myself home and repeat the next day. I'm going to vary my intensity a lot this year and try to make better use of a heart rate monitor.

see, that's why it seems like a waste of $ for me from May to Sept/Oct. would i really use the facility during this time? i don't know. i do know that i would like to be doing something else right now besides riding a trainer 3x during the week and biking outside on weekends, depending on weather....
It may be a waste in those months but if you figure out the $$$ going month to month, its still cheaper.

Have you looked into that place on Amelia Church Road? I think it is called Lions Gate. A membership there will allow you to go there, over by Gregg (River something) and over by Flowers Plantation. Last I heard it was very reasonably priced.

lions gate was really expensive. associated with riverwood, ya know! something like $80/month.
might have to seriously look into Peak.

Really? It must have been a membership drive happening when I heard about it. Seems like it was around $30ish.
Sorry

I planned to do a bike/bus commute today.
After I got to the bus stop, I discovered that TTA buses had the day off today.
So, I rode the 12.5 miles to work - wind was not significant this morning. Having been very lazy in December, I didn't think I was up to my full commute, but it worked out. I got a ride home by a circuitous route (attend first aid training after work).
I am a slow commuter, but I did burn 1100 calories this morning!
I work in the same building as David Cole. He passed me just before I turned onto the road for the guard shack this morning. David is Membership VP of NCBC for 2007.

EstherThe winds ended up not being as bad as expected, but there were gusts that were hard. Congrats on your first commute for the year.
