Registration for the 2007 MS 150, which will be held September 8 and 9 in New Bern, NC is now open. There are options for a 35, 75, or 100 mile ride each day, with different routes each day. The ride is one of the best supported rides I have seen. Last year I road on Team GSK and completed the two 75 mile routes. I am planning to do the same this year. Although the double century would not be out of my reach, I plan wait until the Sea Gull so I can ride my first official century with my daughters and sons-in-law.

I am already signed up and have raised about $550.00 so far. My goal is to raise $1000.00.

I will be riding with the Selma Cyclepaths and right now am planning on doing the double century.

Thats the plan. I'm 99.9% sure I could do a single century now so after a summer of group rides and training, I dont think a double is out of the question.

Unless there is a bad headwind, a double century down there is no problem. The only hill is the bridge on the first day. Once you get moving, there is nothing to slow you down but the wind. I just hope the weather is as good this year as it was last year.

It would be nice to have a Slow Spokes Team for the ride, now that we have those nice jersey's Zonda ordered. Planning on the double century this year also. And all the team members can ride any length. Well Zonda?

I think you'll find a lot of us already have allegiances with other teams. For the MS-150 it is fun to do it with a good sized group. Like the Selma Cyclepaths, who were overall winners last year...

Also, if you field a team for the MS-150, you need to do training rides that build up to the MS-150 distances throughout the summer. The training rides v. the 'regular' Slow Spokes rides might cause confusion.

Just my .02 - from a Slow Spoke and Cyclepath!

Amen, those tandems pull like a freight train!

I plan to be there. It will be my first time, so I'm not certain of my distance. I also have a son, 14, who might want to join in.

A nice thing about the event is that you can choose what distance you want to ride on the day of. (even though I think they ask you to select what distances you will ride when you sign up, nobody will hold you to it)

Thanks Pugslyyy, that is a plus. With a family planning to ride you never know what last minute thing might change everyone's plan.

Jay - 75 miles @ New Bern - if a hurricane is not bearing down & causing high winds - is like doing a 45-50 mile effort from Blue Jay Point. There are NO hills to haul oneself up (other than the big bridge over the "river"). It will be no prob for you to do double. But could you send some of that money you are raising so easily to my very shy wife - who always flirts with the min?

You mean overall they raised the most donations.

Not got to finish first.

If your spouse will be in New Bern & not riding, you could talk her into being the personal SAG for your son in case he bites off more than he can chew.

I know several people do that, including a particular tandem that always rides Sunday with his very young son. They always plan to do the 100 & are usually among the first to finish (dad is VERY strong), but if the son starts to complain, they call mom to meet them at the next rest stop.

Another excellent suggestion. That does make it easier for me to plan for the longer distances.

I also will be riding with Team GSK. Plan to try for a double century as well if anyone is interested in training for that in N. Raleigh. :)

Just be aware that - currently - the Team GSK site has the wrong weekend for the Tour de Cure. It is actually June 9-10 (not 2-3).

Team GSK is trying to fix their site, but their webmaster got "re-org'd" right out of GSK.The Team GSK web site has been fixed. They have a new webmaster, and updates to the site are beginning to be rolled out. They have some of the early training rides posted now. The first one will be March 3.

I saw GSK was correct last night, but forgot about deleting my now inaccurate info until I saw your message. Outdated info now deleted. Thanx for your updated post to remind me. :)

That is a good thing about this host - can fix mistakes or update w/ new or correct info.

I just signed up today. I'm riding with the Cisco Kids (my "alma mater" of sorts). I guess it's time to dust off my bike and hit the streets :-)
