I finally took the plung. I ordered a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. It has high resolution GPS SiRF 3 chip set that claims to be able to see through canopy, hills, glass, tall buildings and box canyons, even inside buildings in some cases. Micro SD Transflash memory cards hold upto 2 G of maps. That's the whole USA folks. Runs all day on two AA batteries. Yeah it's bigger than an 305, but I don't have plug it in and it does Sooo much more.

I should have it in a week.

What else does it do that you need on a bike? The 305 is a cycling computer that just happens to have a GPS built in.. this is a GPS with 0 features for cycling. Will it monitor heart rate and cadence? No. Will it record your ride and let you view your performance in a fairly well laid out software package? No. Granted you will have street level directions but that's really the only advantage I can see and if you plot a route ahead of time, you can do navigation on the Edge.

It's also about double the size of the Edge but that probably isnt that big a deal if you put it on the bars.

Don't care about heart rate or cadence. I only ride for fun. It will gather all the information for reviewing the ride including altitude. Aint america wonderful. We can all have exactly what we want.

I dunno if you got it or not but it looks like you're gonna need MetroGuide to go with it. The Garmin base maps are pretty bare. They have major roads and that's about it. If you want to navigate rural stuff, you'll need the MetroGuide SD card.

I talked to Garmin and bought the new City Navigator. It will work with both of my units.

Cool! I dunno why I keep calling it MetroGuide since they changed the name. Nav 8 is very complete compared to the Nav 6 I was using before.

Post some pics when you get it all mounted up!

$269.99.. Even with next day air freight its cheaper most places. If you have Amazon Prime, that's a cheaper alternative probably with the shipping.
