View Full Version : 2/24 Ride - Garner
As there will be no SlowSpokes ride this weekend, some of us are interested in doing a ride from my house in Garner. Intended route is about 40-45 miles (I haven't finalized it yet) and the pace will most likely be 15-17, depending on who shows up. Most likely we will go out through Four Oaks and make a big loop back.
This is not a no drop ride so you will be expected to either keep up or be comfortable riding by yourself if you cant. We'll most likely stop and regroup a few times tho. None of the past rides Ive done have been no drop and no one has been left behind yet :)
Anyone interested in joining, please reply here so I can get an idea of how many people to expect.

I can ride Sat. Anyone else interested in joining Jay's ride for a slower/shorter route?

Scott and I are thinking of doing about 20 miles at a slower pace. Not sure if we want to start in Garner - Scott was thinking of trying to compose and map a route starting from Thomas Brooks park in western Cary.

Esther,
Thanks for the suggestion. Since I haven't ridden with them in Garner yet, I would like to ride in Garner if we have a route. Jay regularly drove all the way to Cary to ride, so I would like to return the favor and ride on his turf.

Zonda, I'm in for a ride this Saturday. I picked up some new shoes and broke them in yesterday with only one incident :) Yeah, stuck in my pedal. I'm not deterred and pedaling on!
What time and where? I'm in favor of an early start.

Yeah, stuck in my pedal. They should stress that there is a good chance that will happen. I nearly broke my neck when I first got my shoes and pedals.

I am up for a slower (at least slower than Jay, Tracy and Karen are going to do) ride on Saturday.

I don't think I've done that. I did fall to avoid hitting someone once. And once I stopped at a light and forgot to clip-out. that was embarassing. Like a tree falling over. The worst thing about falling like that is that you can see it coming but can't do anything about it.

Me too. I'm up for riding but I'm doing shorter distances right now. Being too big a weenie to ride in cold weather, I don't think I've done anything over 20 miles in many months now.
A ride on Saturday? What time are we talking about leaving cause I may be interested in going :) Told the doc im going and she frowned at me but I just shruged and said I gotta go its going to be nice out.
Well keep me up to date :)

It looks like a good day for riding
Tonight: Clear, with a low around 27. North wind between 5 and 11 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Guys.. Im going to have to cancel a ride out my way. Ive got a server outage to deal with today and am simply not going to have time to go out and drive the routes and alter them if need be.
Zonda was talking about riding a shorter distance with Scott and Esther I think in Cary so that's still an option for those of you wanting to ride. Probably a lot closer than coming all the way out here to my neck of the woods anyway.
I apologize for the last minute cancelation but I really wasnt expecting to need shorter/more than 1 route(s) so I wasnt prepared for it and the last couple of days have been really hectic.
If the weather looks good for next weekend and you guys want to ride out here, I will start on routes and cue sheets on Monday and make sure everything is ready to go but in this case, I simply dont have the time.

Scott and Esther are not certain about riding tomorrow. Our cat's teeth cleaning today turned into removing 9-10 teeth. Not sure yet how much home care that will require during the weekend!
Note to self: next time you adopt a new cat, get a dental exam before you've had the cat for 13months!

I'm preparing a ride announcement for Cary/MacGregor Village, any distance up to 44 miles. This is an out and back route. People interested so far, Jon, Dajuan, Rick, Mike D., Me, Kelly. I'll create a new thread and add it to the calendar.
What is your preference for a start time?
Weather.com shows:
10:00 a.m. 42 degrees
11:00 46 degrees
12:00 49 degrees
1:00 52 degrees
Any time is fine with me. I'll post a ride announcement and add the time after you let me know your preference. 10:00 is o.k., but I know some of you prefer temps closer to 50.

My first choice for times would be 11:00, but I would be fine with 10:00 or noon. The later we start, though, the shorter ride I am interested in.

If I hadn't already registered and paid for the Frostbite tour, I'd go with you...

Charley, sorry about that. If you change your mind, come on out and join us.
Jay, next week is the BJPP ride. I've already cleared the date with some of the north Raleigh riders and posted it on the calendar.

Since we need to finalize this, I'm going to set the Cary Ride start time at 11:00. It should be warm enough by then.
