so, every different ride date would have a thread? that could get quite long if we don't do the same routes often.
i kinda think it would be better to have a thread with Clayton, Garner, NRaleigh, etc then have the various q sheets posted there. limit access to the people making/uploading the q sheets, everyone else can view/download them.
you could then do a posting such as mine for thursday in the rides/meetup area or SS and direct people to see the specific q sheets for Garner or Clayton.
or, if you could make the download manager area have the subgroups, we could upload/view from there.
just some ideas...........K
Im trying to avoid nesting everything so yea, each ride or route would have its own thread. I dont see this as being much of an issue when SS starts alternating the shop rides again because there will probably only be a few routes from each shop.
The EASIEST solution is not to post all the rides in 10,000 different formats and continue to use the Download Manager but if each ride needs to be posted in all those formats, this is about the only solution I can offer.

I think we are coming together. If we use the moderated forum, then as Karen suggested, have a thread for each starting location, we could have all of the cue sheets from that starting location posted under that thread. It is possible to have multiple files in one post, so we could have, for example, a thread for "Wendell Food Lion". Under that thread, we could have a post for the 12.5 mile route, one for the 20 mile route, etc. Then in each of those posts, we could have a link to the Excel file, a link to the PDF file, and a link to the Gamin file.
When rides are posted on the other forum or on the calendar, the person posting those rides can link to the appropriate cue sheet thread or even a post within the thread. Also, if someone wants to plan a ride for himself, he could look at the cue sheet forum for a starting location and pull down whatever suites him.

I think I am in agreement with Rick and Karen but I will need to see it to be sure.

Jay, It sounds like what Karen and Rick said is the same thing I said. Maybe I need to see your preference to understand what you mean. I'm for whatever you think is the easiest way.

+1
excel & word (or pdf; don't see the need for word & pdf files; most should have one or the other application available)
then the crs for garmin users.
2, maybe 3 formats, not a gazzillion....
too many formats makes for messiness & possible confusion?
Rick is spot on with his summary.
What im trying to avoid is having a thread hiearcy like this:
- Cue Sheets
-- Wendell Cue Sheets
--- Food Lion Ride (20,40,50 mile route)
What I'd like to do is:
- Cue Sheets
-- Wendell Ride (20,40,50 mile route)
While I see the benefits of breaking the rides up into specific areas, I dont think it's going to be that much of an advantage for the simple reason that there will only be a handful of people who can post routes in this forum. For that reason, it should not get cluttered up. By keeping everything in one general forum, it makes referencing the rides easier and browsing the cue sheet "list" easier as well.

ok. now that i see what you're talking about, it sounds like a good idea. i had another idea last night (while not being able to sleep at 3AM  ) but didnt' post or write it down at the time, so i can't remember what it was right now....ahh, now i got it - it was along the same lines of what you are suggesting, post the ride area then list the cue sheets under there.
i still think that the less different formats we have would be better, but if someone wants to do the sheets up in 10 different formats & post them, then go for it :D
just my $0.02

Jay,
Grant me moderated status for this forum, and I will put up threads and files for the routes we have. I have Excel and PDF files for all of the routes that are in the Slow Spokes forum except for Karen's loop.
If you or Karen send me the Garmin files in a way that I can identify to which route they are connected, I will add those, too. My e-mail address is in my profile.
Once we have a few routes posted, I think it will be easier for people to see what we are talking about regarding the structure. I still think the best way is to have all routes that leave from the same starting location in the same thread. When I title the starting location, I will be sure it includes a geographic descriptor (i.e., "Cary, Cycling Spoken Here" and "Cary, The Spin Cycle" instead of just "CSH" and "Spin Cycle" or instead of combining both locations as just "Cary") so that people who are not familiar with the location will have a good idea of where it is.
At this point, I only see the need for three formats - Excel, PDF, and Garmin - but if there is a need for another format, with the structure we have been discussing, it should be easy enough to accomodate. Let me put up a few routes and see what happens. We can leave this thread as a place for people to comment on the structure, and lock the others so that it remains easy for people to find the route and format they want.
Okay, Rick.. try making a test thread and see if it will let you. I may need to do some usergroup trickery to make it work if it doesnt.

That works. I will start posting cue sheets in an organized (at least to my mind) fashion when I get home tonight. I should be able to get the Wendell, Cycling Spoken Here, and Blue Jay Point Park sheets up tonight. I will edit the posts to add Garmin files when I receive them.
Excellent.. I may have to fiddle with permissions to make things work 100% right for you so if you see anything wierd, let me know.

Jay,
I have run into another snag. The file size limit for PDF files is 18 KB, but most PDF files are in the 20 to 32 KB range. Even the Excel files push 18 KB. Is there a way to increase the size limit on these files?
Ill take care of it, Rick!

File size issue is solved. I have several routes up now. Again, if someone sends me the Garmin files, I will edit the posts to include the Garmin file with the appropriate route.

I have a suggestion. Since we are not able to freely add threads to this forum, why not unsticky the cue sheet threads and then sticky the upcoming so it is at the top.

The reason I have all of the threads sticky is that is the only way I can keep them in alphabetical order by starting location. I can move the upcoming ride to the top easily enough, but as a long term reference, I thought it would be better if there is logical order to all of the threads.

I have added an index of starting locations as a sticky and have unstuck all of the previous sticky cue sheets. The reason I had the cue sheets as stickies in the first place is that in the older versions of vBulletin, there was an option of forcing stickies to appear in the order I chose. Since this is no longer an option in vBulletin, and since the list was getting so long, I thought I would try maintaining an index instead.
If you have any comments on the change, or if you have any other suggestions for the Cue Sheet Forum, post your comments in the comment thread (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=18149&page=5) or send me a PM (http://www.trianglecycling.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=65).
