I just received a 'hold the date' email for this year's Jimmy V ride.
Sunday August 19th, with 25, 50, 75 and 100 mile options.

Registration is $35, and you get a t-shirt plus other goodies as part of it.
I did it last year and can attest that it is a good ride, well organized and for a good cause.

I think M.S.Fits Bike w/ the Band is on the 18th. And perhaps Cary Cycling Celebration is also the 19th.

Correct, it is actually part of the Jimmy V event this season. http://www.jimmyv.org/vweek/index.cfm?ei=7
There are two parts, the Ride for Research (25/50/75/100) and the Cycling Celebration (rodeo/safety/more kids oriented)

Anyone planning on doing this one? Brian and I are prolly gonna do it. We both did this one last year and it was a great time. Well-organized for a relatively new ride.
Cheers!

Hi Ya'll! I'm definately doing the JimmyV. I'll probably do the 25, and ride to the park and home. making it a 35 mile day. Or, I might do the 50...depends on how the weather is looking. I'm in the 13-15 pace range if anyone wants to ride together!

Awesome! Angie, want to plan for the 25 or 50? We could plan for 50 and back off if we want, or do the 25 and then play at the cycle celebration. Go to www.jimmyv.org/vweek

Hey Bess!!! Cool!!! I am game for either one. I've never done this event so what ever you suggest is good with me. We could register for the 50 and like you said we could back off and then go have fun at the cycle celebration. Let me know which one you register for and I'll do the same one. Great! I'm really looking forward to it.

Hi all, I want to do the Jimmy V ride. I am somewhat of a newbie and if anybody wouldn’t mind showing me around I would really appreciate it.

Welcome to the group!
What pace have you been riding and what distance?
It might be hard to find someone to help you on this ride. We have kind of designated rides in this section as not following "no drop". Typically riders pair up with someone riding at their pace and get to push their pace a little. The rides posted under the Slow Spokes section are designated as "no drop" and might be a better place for you to start if you are looking for someone to mentor you.

Thanks. If so, he will do fine. He just needs to find someone in the group before the ride. Anyone interested in riding with Santiago to help welcome him to the area?

I'm not riding Sunday, but I will be in the organizations/vendors area at a bike club table. Feel free to wander over and say hi.
Some of the Cary bike stores will have exhibits. Since you live in north Raleigh, those store rides may not be convenient for you, but folks at the local bike shops can tell you about their store rides. The Cary Cycling Celebration and the Jimmy V ride partnered this year - that's why it will be pretending that Cary is the center of the world.

Hi again! Thank you for your replays.
I wish I was the dude that you THINK I am, hehehehehe. Sorry to disappoint you but my pace right now is only 12 miles per hour. I have been riding at the green way in the Art Museum. The greater distance that I have ridden so far is 30 miles but I have signed up for the 50 mile ride on Sunday.
So far I have been riding by myself, and I enjoy doing it. However, I really want to try riding with a group to see how I like it.
What I was hopping for, for this Sunday, is to get to know people, perhaps some pointing out to the right direction of where to go just so I don’t end up wondering off the route :-).

excellent. I decided to sleep in this morning (it had been a long week) so looking forward to the ride Sunday. Should be nice weather, especially with the early start.

Yah. And the Moe's at the end of the ride is a great bonus! But wait, you'll be done in time for a late breakfast....:p

Me and Angie did the 25, and added 10 on commuting over to the start. It was a nice route and a great day to pedal for a good cause!! Great company too!:D

Great ride everyone. I did the 50 (which was more like 46) and averaged 18.6. The weather was great and so was the food afterwards!
Cheers,
Andy
