Forgot to include in the announcement that we are trying something different this week. Rick suggested we stagger our departure based on ride groups to help keep riders together in their groups.
Our fast riders (16-18 mph) will go first after the OMV fast riders. Next will be the 14-16 mph group then 10-13 mph group.
This is opposite of what we do on the Sat. shop rides, but we are commingled with OMV fast riders and it’s been hard for others to stay with their group with so many riders leaving at the same time. Hopefully, this will help.
Also, last week after the ride we talked about wearing our SS jerseys the 1st Wed. of the month. Not mandatory, but if yours is clean, wear it Wed:D
How fast are the fast OMV riders?

I've been to El Paso and don't envy you!! We will miss you this week. Sounds like the Texas/New Mexico Slow Spokes are in good hands...;)
"Forcast is for sunny, 85 Fdegrees, with a side of sand", you forgot great Tex/Mex food and margaritas!!:D I do miss that! Have a good trip.

Brian and I are going to try to be there on Wednesday. Brian will definitely be there and if class gets out on time and I can get from Buies Creek to Cary without too much traffic I will ride too. Brian is not sure how fast he rides since he usually stays behind me, but I assume he'll be in the 16-18 group. I'll probably fall toward the back of the 13-15 group.

How fast are the fast OMV riders? It depends on who is there; at least 18, but often in excess of 22 mph.

How fast are the fast OMV riders?
I think David rides 22-23 mph. Not sure if they are all up to that right now. I'd say the range is 18-22 mph. Jon might have a guess since he's one of the few riding fast enough to see them ahead of him.
Betsy & Brian, hope you both can make it!

How fast are the fast OMV riders?
18-20 seems like. I've only ridden the whole way with them once. And there are faster breakaway guys than that...

Come on out Jay. I want to see you work hard to keep up with the OMV fast riders and be challenged just like Karen when she tries to keep up with you!!:D
Oh, guess I won't see that... I'll be way at the back of pack.
Jon, give me the full report!! :D

Do we still ride if it rains?
RickF
04-03-2007, 09:13 PM
Do we still ride if it rains? If it is raining at 6:00 PM, I do not ride. It looks like isolated thunderstorms in the morning, but clearing in the afternoon. As I posted last week, we always have a risk of afternoon thunderstorms, but if it is not raining and no lightening visible from MacGregor Village at 6:00, we will ride.

Yeah baby. 22 miles at 14.7. A bit windy but well worth the effort. Just like the first OMV ride of the season, the wind pushed us in. It was great.
Thanks for riding with me Kate. Conversation is always appreciated.

Great ride, but hectic before the start. A car accident at Hwy 64 delayed some riders getting to the parking lot. We had miscommunication as to where Esther was and we took off without her. Rick thought she took off at the front. Esther, sorry for the miscommunication. Jen C., Michelle and Jackie T., sorry you couldn’t make it.

It was a good ride. Little windy, but not too terrible. Nice to have Jay out showing us how it's done on his single gear bike!
I always like the timed nature of the Wednesday ride, I like us all leaving and finishing pretty much together even though there are a bunch of different speed/distance groups.

The wind pushed us in? I thought that was all me!
Thanks Charley for leading (and pulling) the whole time. I had a great ride and I do very much like that the timed multi-pace ride allows my husband and I to ride 'together' but at our own paces and finish at the same time. Simple yet ingenious.

Betsy and I enjoyed the ride as well. It is a very good concept allowing different level riders start and finish around the same time.

Zonda,
We made a wrong turn, but Andy and John and I rode well together. We took turns leading and actually ended up going 16.7 miles in about 75 minutes and averaged......are you sitting down?........14.7 That's my high this year. It was a great day to ride. Appreciate you.
