Mike

Are you the person on the Gyros Forum who is leading a ride on Sundays at 9am. (37 mile, 14 to 16mph) from Blue Jay Park?

Nope, That must be another MikeD. You thinking of riding that one?

Gerard

Yes, I was going to go on that ride except that the weather is supposed to be bad tomorrow morning.
Any other rides on Sunday you could suggest (15,16,17mph)?

Weather doesn't really look all that great for riding today. If you head out, just remember that peoples driving typically gets worse in wet weather.

This ride was cancelled earlier this morning.

Wouldn't this thread have better fit under "rides / meet-ups"?

Or a PM?

Here is a copy of the post on the Gyros Forum. I am assuming the ride has been cancelled for today because of the poor conditions. Mike Dalton said he would post a decision but as of 8.45am I have not heard anything.

From Gyros Forum:

Sunday Beginner Ride:
MEETING PLACE: Blue Jay Point
TIME: Sunday 4/15/07 @ 9 am
RIDE DISTANCE: 37 miles
PACE: 14-16mph

Currently, this ride is scheduled every other Sunday. We are trying to
get another ride leader so that this will be a weekly ride.
Hopefully, this will occur sometime soon.

Regards,
Mike Dalton

Yep, good call. I think Zonda tries to keep the ride postings in the Slow Spokes forum purely slow spokes (i.e. guaranteed no-drop) to avoid confusing newcomers to the message board.

I am looking for a good Sunday morning or Monday@6PM ride that has a slower pace of as well. Something like 15mph with hills or 17 on the flats. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Is there a specific area you are looking for? I would love to do something in the Garner/Clayton area on Sundays.

I live in Wake Forest so basically have a 45min drive to either Cary or the Clayton rides. I have seen this ride that refers to Slow Spokes as well but have not been on it, have you or anyone else here?

Cycling Spoken Here seems to have a Sunday and Monday evening ride as well.

I checked with the Gyros Sunday ride from Blue Jay, which would be perfect for me but is only every other week right now and I would much prefer to find something regular that I can schedule.

We would love to ride in Garner/Clayton on Sundays. I can average about 15-16 if I try real hard:D But realistically probably 14-15. Let me know.

The two that run that ride use to be part of this group, but left the group. They just like the name and theory so much they use it for themselves. ;) To answer your question, I rode with them last year. Not since.

You can count me in on any ride you come up with on Sundays (14,15,16mph).

I would love to try to push myself to improve to 15-16, so a Sunday ride with faster people would probably be good for me. Let me know if you have a specific route in mind. We live on the Wake County side of Hwy 50 off of 1010 road. We ride a lot on 1010, Sauls/Crowder, Rand, Jordan, Holland Church, Jackson-King - that is about all I am familiar with. We're always open to whatever.:)

I'm open. I have routes from my house to Four Oaks and that direction. Karen has a couple of routes that head into Clayton towards Raleigh and Jay has a couple that head to Benson and Coats. We have directions and distances covered. We can flip a coin

well, once the weather remains stable with no 30-40mph winds, no rain, i expect to do 20-30miles on sundays, most likely at a recovery type of pace. this usually turns out to be around 16, the last couple of times jay and i rode.

That Sunday ride that the gyros do is a good one. I'll be doing it as my schedule allows this summer.

How is Wake Forest to ride in?

Wake Forest is pretty good. Not as hilly as north Raleigh but hillier than Clayton. I rode out here a good bit by myself before figuring out it was much more fun and safer and better in groups. I did not really have routes as much as I would just go ride which usually turned out good. Mainly up to Franklinton/Rolesville. Standard nice NC country scenery.

I would be up for a Sunday recovery type ride this coming week as well since the Gyros will only be doing theirs every other week.
