View Full Version : Recovery Ride, Sunday 4/22
I was talking to Betsy and KG about doing a recovery ride out towards Garner on Sunday. Anyone else be interested in an "easy" 30-35 mile spin? Average speed will probably be under 17, possibly under 16.
Mostly no drop, if someone starts lagging back, we'll wait at turns.
I'd like to do Tracy's Four Oaks route maybe next weekend on Sunday if he's interested. I've been wanting to try that route. He said it's mostly flat.

Possibly under 14-15 -- obviously this will not be a recovery ride for me, but I promise I'll try :D. Karen said something about losing my lungs...

c'mon girl...you can do this. no lung pain, no gain :D
I think you'll be surprised. The first half of the ride is mostly downhill and is really fast. Ill give you guys the route info ahead of time and we'll wait for you at the entrance to my subdivision. We'll go right by you guy's subdivision on the way back and you can hop off there. Should be around 35 miles I think.
Just looked at the last ride me and Karen did. It was 33 miles with an average speed of 16.1. I'll add a little to the route this week to get it to 35. Dont worry about the pace, we're not trying to set any land speed records.

Depending on the time, I'm most likely going to join in.
Sweet! Im flexible on the time and the weather looks great.
I'll post the route on Bikely and put a link up. I have 0 cue sheet skills so Im not even going to attempt that.

I take it they have worked the turn problem out in TC since you are posting .tcx files.

Do you go about creating courses the same way as the .crs files?
Yea.. you can import as CRS but when you export, it exports as a TCX

Or you could adopt Road Dog course length rules. +/- 25%. Then no extra needed.

Yea.. Im not really interested in a hour drive each way to do a recovery ride but thanks.
Betsy and Brian live ~5 minutes from me and KG and Tracy are within 15 if you come the back way so its a long haul for all of us to come to north Raleigh.

what time you planning on riding sunday?
TracyW

After lunch would work out pretty good for me.
1 PM is the designated start time but I am flexible if it needs to be moved out a little. Id rather not ride around noon so as we dont go by churches that are letting out.
Anyone needing directions, send me a PM. With the people I have stalking me, no way will I post my address in public.

Sorry, just expressing my opinion. I don't think that was a useful comment. We've had enough disagreements and hurt feelings between different groups and different people without intentionally stirring the pot like that.
If you would be prepared to make those comments to the persons referred to face to face, then I apologize. Otherwise, I stand by the disapproval I expressed.
Regards,
Jon

Good ride today. Sorry I kind of dropped off at the end, I think that last long hill got the best of me - thanks for waiting at all the turns though (and thanks Karen for trying to pull me up some of those hills). Brian and I ended up averaging 14.3 mph for a total of 33.8 miles, which may sound slow to everyone else, but it was my fastest pace so far at that long of a distance. I didn't look, but Brian said for about the first 20 miles or so we were actually averaging 15.9 mph. We had a great time and I know the only way to get better is to get out there in ride, so thanks for sticking with us!
Glad you guys came out. I did notice you were fading a little there at the end but as hot as it was today, I thought you did great. Next time we're going to have to definetly have an ice cream stop and maybe pick some fresh strawberries as well!

whew...that ride whooped me. maybe it was the no lunch (breakfast @8am), that killer hill that Jay said i wouldn't want any part of, chasing the group twice to catch up, the heat, or what, but i'm f'ing whooped this evening.
stopped at the grocery store for some stuff for supper this evening - got out of the car and my hamstrings started cramping, my left foot cramped up trying to use the clutch, i had a cramp in my bicep of all places...just feel really bad right now.
anyways...my stats: 2:25, 36.5mi, and 15.1mph average
That hill will bring you down, dude.. that thing is freakin 14% grade. Its not long but it's hella steep.

I was a bit surprised by how warm it was out there in the sun - I sweated more on this ride than I have all year. Time to start carrying those endurolyte tabs with me while I ride again. They really make a different for me.
Jon
Yea.. Ive already ordered mine when I got home and Im going to go out tomorrow and try to find a bottle locally to hold me over till the other stuff gets here.

I have a big time headache tonight. I don't think there is any weather coming through, so wondering if it is hydration/electrolyte/whatever related. I haven't started doing my warm weather regimen of endurolytes, etc - maybe time to start.
Well, KG and I did the Benson 50 mile loop a few weeks ago I guess and the high was like 84 that day and about 35 miles in, I started feeling like crap so I'd guess that the weather is playing a big part in it.
For the Tuesday ride, Im going to try to hydrate better and we can add an extra rest stop in Coats if need be.
