***Michelle and Andrea are working on revisions to the cue sheets to get us away from construction zones. Hopefully, the next time we ride from CSH, the cue sheets will be revised.
Note: Rides begin at 8:00 starting in May. This will help avoid some of the traffic.
RSVP by Friday, 5:00 p.m. with your route choice.
When: Saturday, 05/05/07, 8:00 a.m.
Where:
Cycling Spoken Here (http://cyclingspokenhere.com/)
1377 NW Maynard
Cary, NC 27513
Across from Atlantic Tire and the Shell station. Next to Volvo dealer. Park along corridor by the shop.
Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=1377+NW+Maynard,+cary,+nc+27513&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=35.790874,-78.809953&spn=0.015247,0.042915&om=1&iwloc=A)
Distance: 15-20, 30 and 50 miles. I will lead the short route, 15-20 miles based on the skills of the riders. We will probably do an out and back to avoid returning through construction on High House.
Cue Sheets (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=19649) – CSH Route 2 (Please print).
Pace:
10-12 mph beginners (follows strict no drop policy)
13-15 mph (riders wait at turns for others to catch up)
There are several subgroups for ride paces and distances. Please watch out for others in your subgroup so no one gets dropped. If you can’t keep up, drop back to the next subgroup.
All riding groups will stay together until the designated breakaway point then you can break away into subgroups. Since we are having problems with aggressive drivers in Cary, it is important that we stay together until we get a few miles away from traffic. Drivers tend to harass small groups of cyclists rather than large groups
Contact Person: Zonda. Send me an email or private message (http://www.trianglecycling.com/member.php?u=42) through this site if you have any questions.
Comments:
RSVP to help plan riding groups.
Please arrive in time to prepare your bike to leave promptly at the ride start time listed.
Beginners are welcome to join this ride.
All riders should carry proper equipment in case they have a flat (spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridge). Helmets required.
It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver’s license and health insurance card (or a photo copy) in case of an emergency. You may also want to program your cell phone with an emergency contact number under the name “ICE” In Case of Emergency.
New riders should read Bicycling Hand Signals and Safety Pointers (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=17385)

I'm not sure if I can ride on Saturday. Kayley's Brownie Troop is going camping, and I volunteered to drive if her troop leader is still short on drivers.
Good news: On 4/27, I drove the stretch of High House Rd where Rick fell, and another layer of pavement has been added so the road and curb are now at the same level.
Bad news: They only paved the outside lane, so there is an even bigger drop/bump when they shift traffic further up the road.
Michelle, I'm working on a possible route to avoid the HH road traffic. I have a tax return to finish today and I hope to make the route presentable tonight. I'll PM you later tonight or tomorrow with what I have.

I'd like shoot for the 15-20 mile ride, but I've got to be back in downtown Raleigh by 10:45. We should finish it up in less than 2 hours, right?
If so, count me in.

You're right, I don't see why I couldn't make it. I'll see you there a little before 8 Saturday. I'll go for the 20 mile, and I can probably hang around 13-14, depending on how bad the hills are.
My printer made the cue sheet hard to read, so I modified it to remove the gray backgrounds and make it a bit smaller, the latter as a matter of preference. The original looks good, I just found this one easier to read, so I figured I'd put it up here just in case anyone else has a "vanilla" taste in document formatting, or if their printer doesn't like the gray backgrounds w/ black text.;)

Gray line or not. Rick & I discussed this when the cue sheet forum was established. With his eyesight issues, the gray lines allow his eyes to stay on the same line as he reads across the page. With mine, the gray background makes it difficult to read the text, and with the occasional sweaty, fogged up cycling goggles, almost impossible. Rick chose the version that works best for him; properly so.
Small print or larger print. For some of us older types, that have not done the lasik thing, we cannot read small print unless we have our reading glasses with us - sometimes we can't read the text even with the glasses if the print is too small. Since the distance vision is still fantastic, we don't need glasses to drive, and don't bring them with us on the bike. I like the print to be as large as possible that will fit on one page (or one flip-page). However, almost all computer / printer combinations allow the user to choose the size of the printout on the page, pretty much eliminating the need for mutliple files with different fonts.
As FenderFreek's post illustrates, the good thing about the SS cue sheets is that they are available electronically to everyone before the ride, and anyone can modify them to fit their needs / preferences.

I like the gray lines. When I'm on the move, and can only look down at the sheet for a split second, I thing the gray lines make it easier for me to follow a line across the page. Just my $0.02 ;)

Thanks for the feedback on the cue sheets. I didn't really think anyone else had a problem with them since the standard hasn't changed, but mine just didn't quite come out right, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to share what I'd done.
The lines really do seem to make it easier to follow where you're at, so I may try some different things to make them print right for me, but still be easy to follow.

That's what I do to eliminate the gray background but still provide some "divider" assistance.
