RSVP by Friday, 5:00 p.m. with your route choice.

When: Saturday, 05/12/07, 8:00 a.m.

Where:

The Spin Cycle (http://www.thespincycle.com/)
Salt Box Village
1241 Kildaire Farm Road
Cary, NC 27511

Parking is sensitive at the shopping center. Please park away from the shop on the back row near McDonald’s or ride your bike to the shop.

Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=1241+Kildaire+Farm+Road,+27511&ie=UTF8&z=15&ll=35.764239,-78.783302&spn=0.015635,0.042915&om=1&iwloc=addr)

Distance: 13, 20, 40, and 50 miles

Cue Sheets (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=19840) – TSC Route 2 (Please print). I would like to ride the 50 mile route.

12.4 miles
19.5 miles
39.1 miles
49.8 miles

Pace:
10-12 mph beginners (follows strict no drop policy)
13-18 mph (riders wait at turns for others to catch up)

There are several subgroups for ride paces and distances. Please watch out for others in your subgroup so no one gets dropped. If you can’t keep up, drop back to the next subgroup.

All riding groups will stay together until the designated breakaway point then you can break away into subgroups. Since we are having problems with aggressive drivers in Cary, it is important that we stay together until we get a few miles away from traffic. Drivers tend to harass small groups of cyclists rather than large groups

Contact Person: Zonda. Send me an email or private message (http://www.trianglecycling.com/member.php?u=42) through this site if you have any questions.

Comments:

RSVP requested to help plan riding groups.
Please arrive in time to prepare your bike to leave promptly at the ride start time listed.
Beginners are welcome to join this ride.
All riders should carry proper equipment in case they have a flat (spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridge). Helmets required.
It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver’s license and health insurance card (or a photo copy) in case of an emergency. You may also want to program your cell phone with an emergency contact number under the name “ICE” In Case of Emergency.
New riders should read Bicycling Hand Signals and Safety Pointers (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=17385)

I'd be there, but I'm heading back home to see the family. I haven't been back since Christmas, so I'm a bit overdue.:(

I'll be sure to see you guys next week though.

Brian and I will be there. Would like to do 50 mile route, but I'm flexible depending on who's riding at my speed.

I am flexible, too. I originally signed up for 39, but I can do 50 if we do not spend too much time at the rest stops. My main concern is when I finish, and not how far I go. I would like to be finished by noon.

I'm going to join Sandy on the shorter route. I've modified the route a bit to avoid the hill on High House road. We'll test it out and see how it works. The route is about 18 miles long.

MichelleThere is a hill on High House Road

If you revised route works out, send me the changes, and I will post the alternate route in the cue sheet forum. It sounds like it might be another good beginner route.

ok rick sometimes you are just so special. Ya there is a hill and ya for some of us wimp it can be a pain with the stop and go on that road. It is mainly the traffic that make the up grade a pain not the hill its self

I rode up that hill on Tuesday with a beginner on one of The Spin Cycle rides. That was the first time she had ever used the small chainring. In fact, we had to tell her not only that she should be in the small chainring, but how to get there. She had done the MS 150 (New Bern is flat) and cycled across Iowa (very flat), but she had never had to use the left hand shifter before.

You don't need the small ring on flats and for the record Iowa is not all flat but where that ride is it is just low rolling hills you could use the big ring if you wanted to. it is not the hill on that road it is the lights that drive me nuts. You just get a good rythem and you have to stop again. I have hills in raleigh that i go up that are longer but no lights. I am just not a hill liker that does not mean I don;t do them. I also have a friend that does the across nc ride he hardly ever uses the small ring he said it is for pansies

It is not raining here. It looks like most of the rain is to the north and west (Durham and the Falls Lake areas). So far, Cary is dry.

JimH

It is starting to sprinkle here and there is a dark cloud to the west. I'm about 10 minutes south of the shop off of Kildare Farm Rd.

Looks questionable to me. I think the rain got here sooner than expected.
