So are you planning on this being your coming out from rehab party?
There are 3 rest stops on the 100k, so as long as you stop and replenish should be fine no matter what the heat.
I went ahead and bought the buffet lunch for afterwards as well.
Here's my attempt at the .tcx file...

I am doing the 50K with my daughter and son-in-law. Since my daughter is competing in a triathlon on July 7, she did not want to do the 100K on the 4th. Also, I wanted more time to spend with my granddaughter in the afternoon.

So are you planning on this being your coming out from rehab party?
Not sure Jon. That'll put me at 3.5wks of no long rides, no hills, no nothing. I don't know if I'll be able to do a metric or not (really 6wks of no riding). Gonna take a little time for me to get back up to where I was speed-wise and distance-wise. Hopefully, I won't have lost too much:(. Don't know if I'll be able to hang with you, Jay, & Erica...
If I don't make this one, I was thinking about NCBC Summer Rally - 40mi route as "coming out from rehab party".

Karen, I can't hang with Jon and Jay, so *IF* you can make it to this event, I'd be happy to ride with you. It will be the first time I have gone that far and I'm not trying to chase tires all day long and end up hurting myself, plus I feel bad always asking Jay to baby me and ride with me.

Are there any slower spokes riding ~ 14-15 mph for 50K or probably closer to 14 for 100K? I would be interested in doing either distance with someone my pace so Brian can ride at his pace and not be forced to tag along behind me.

She usually goes about 15. I think Andrew M is in that range, too. Depending on the temperature and time constraints, my daughter, son-in-law, and I probably will ride around 15 mph.

I usually run about 16 on that side of the county, so if you want to hang, I'm up for it.
... And I could prolly get 'hold of some cortisone if you REALLY want it :)

:) Suzanne and Jamie France have signed up for the firecracker. We are going to do the 50k and then partake in the buffet afterwards. ;)
PARKING QUESTIONS:confused:
We live 1.7 miles from the start of the ride so we will ride over to the start. I was wondering if anyone else on this forum would be looking for a place to park. We live on a corner so we could probably have about 5 or 6 cars parked in front of our house no problem. Anyway, if you are interested in parking at our house and riding from here please let me know. You can post here or send me a private message.
Thanks, Suzanne

i'll prolly be able to do 16-16.5 in that area. it'll be my first real ride in while, so i don't think i'll be doing any hammertime.

Missie and Dave V (my daughter and son-in-law), and I started off together on the 50K route. Missie had been not feeling well since her 4 mile open water swim over the weekend, and decided to take a short cut back to the house after the rest stop. Dave and I continued on. Our stats were:
Distance 32.2 miles
Pace 17.0
Time 1:54
Betsy was already at the finish when we arrived. We saw David M, Rebekah, and Brian finish.

Here are our stats:
Distance: 33.5
Pace: 15.9
Time: 2 hrs 10 min
We also picked up Shannon who is new to the area, I asked her to check out our group....:)

I have been sick all weekend and (apparently against my better judgement) I decided to try to ride. I made it 15.7 miles to the first rest stop and felt like death so I sagged in from there. We saw Jackie at that rest stop. Brian rode the rest of the way and ended up averaging 15.7, pretty good considering we were only at 13.8 at the 1st rest stop.

I managed 44.7 on the big hill and had to hit the brakes on the way up because of some moron in s SUV. Rode with Boyd and Elain. Total 63 miles averaging 16.4. My legs were toast the last 10 miles. Crawled up High House at 8. Ugg. Saw lots of folks I know. Great ride.

Crawled up High House at 8. Ugg.I have been getting some flack about the hills on the ride out of Harris Lake County Park on this thread: http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=20305&page=7
I contend that there is no hill on that route that is as bad as High House Road, not to mention Peed, Ghoston, or Lystra. Maybe I am jaded because I ride so often with Team GSK out of Hillsborough, Carrboro, and Neal Middle School, but I do not think the routes out of Harris Lake County Park are hilly. If most of your riding is out of Clayton, then your point of view might be different.
For those of you who rode on Sunday, how would you compare those hills to the hills on other rides?
Pugslyyy
07-09-2007, 10:18 PM
Well, it was hillier than any ride I've ever done out of Macgregor on Wednesday night. I thought it was a good ride, but that we did mis-represent it a bit.

For those of you who rode on Sunday, how would you compare those hills to the hills on other rides?
I would say the other routes don't have hills!! The only comparable route in my opinion is TSC Route 1 55 Miles (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=18997). It is hilly, but I think the Harris Lake 43 mile route was hillier. Maybe the stretch up the hills are longer, but it definitely was a harder ride than what we've been riding.
