Does anyone know of any organized weeknight rides for C paced riders? Most of the shop rides seem to be either for beginners around 12 mph or for 16+ riders, there's just not much in between. I would like to find another organized ride during the week besides Wednesday since I am much more motivated to ride when I have other people of my level to ride with (no offense to my husband:) )

Not much out there, but here are some ride calendars:

NCBC (http://www.ncbikeclub.org/calendar/ncbc0507.htm)

Spin Cycle (http://www.thespincycle.com/events.asp?level1=weekly_store_rides)

The Tuesday beginner ride is at the pace of the slowest rider, which usually is 14+ mph. Rick regularly attends this ride and can provide more information.

Thursday C Pace 14-16mph 27-35 miles 6:00pm Lee (lee.m.walker@gmail.com)

Cycling Spoken Here (http://cyclingspokenhere.com/page.cfm?PageID=327)

Thanks Zonda- sounds like the beginner ride might be a decent option.

I recommend the CSH Apex ride that Mark Farnsworth leads on inline skates. It's a C pace ride.

I know Mark and Kendra very well and their ride is run pretty good. They regroup at all turns if the pace is a little fast for you. Karen, Jon and I did it at our own pace and averaged 18 something.. the rest of the group was in the 15 MPH range. I had done the ride earlier this year and it was much faster so we just went at our own pace and waited at the turns.

Tuesday night @ 5:45

There's also a B ride and an A ride that leaves at the same time if Brian wants something faster while you're doing the C ride.

The B ride has a ton of riders and the pack is huge.

Thanks Jay - I saw the info about that ride, but wondered if it would be too fast for me just yet. Might have to try it just to see how it goes...

I think its a good ride for you, Betsy. It will make you work but you should be able to keep up for most of the ride.

I do think you'll have some trouble on Woods Creek as the pace limit is lifted for that road and it's a lot of climbing but again, everyone will wait for you at the end and its only like a 6 mile stretch. The rest of the ride, you wont have any problems at all.

Even on Woods Creek, I think Mark will be back there with you. Taking that road at 15mph on inlines is not easy.

you can do it Betsy. and, as Jay says, woods creek is hard, so save some for that one. last time i rode over there i got droped on that one and i did ride back in with Mark and another skater.

you'll be fine. just suck it up and do it - eventually, you'll get stronger :)

Betsy,
A friend and I ride from Inside Out Sports in Cary on most Tuesday evenings. Our husbands do the store ride and we just do our own, following many of the same roads. Yesterday we did 20 miles at 14.3. If you want to come out and ride with us, let me know.

Thanks - I may take you up on that in July. For the month of June I am trapped on rotation in Greenville with no bike:( and I'll only be home on weekends and possibly an occasional Wednesday night if I can make it happen.

Betsy,

Another option is the 6:00 PM Monday night no drop ride from Cycling Spoken Here in Cary. I cannot speak from first hand experience about this ride, but it is billed as a no drop ride for beginners.

As Zonda mentioned, I usually do the Tuesday 6:00 beginners ride from The Spin Cycle. We go at the fastest pace that the slowest person can maintain. So far this year, that has ranged from 13.0 mph to 15.7 mph. Last year, we had some as slow as 12 mph. It all depends on who shows up. It is the same 16.25 mile loop every week.

The Spin Cycle has a C ride on Thursdays at 6:00. It is billed as 14 to 16 mph. It is also a no drop ride, so again, it depends on who shows up how fast it actually is. Last week we averaged 16 mph, but no one will complain (or drop you) if you can only manage 14 mph. There is a 20 mile and a 29 mile option. When the ride gets to the point where the two options split, Lee asks what people want to do. The two times I road on that ride, we did the longer loop.

There are B rides (17 to 19 mph) leaving at the same time from The Spin Cycle on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Mondays from Cycling Spoken Here if Brian would rather ride fast while you are riding.

I live in the 40/42 area if you are anywhere near that we could start our own group.

... if you are anywhere near ... we could start our own group. If you & maybe one more person ride consistently from the same place, same time, you will become your own convenient small group ride.

So do I.. Have we crossed paths before? I mainly ride on the Wake Co side of 50.. Brack Penny Rd, Sauls, Holland Church, etc all the way down to Benson or Coats, just depending on what route I decide to do.
