View Full Version : Ride Wed. 06/13/07, 6:00 p.m. Cary/MacGregor Village, Oh Melo Velo, RSVP
Zonda
06-10-2007, 03:36 PM
NOTE: The ride on 6/13 was supposed to be a time trial. This is an annual event organized by Ed to celebrate his birthday on 6/15. Since Ed crashed and isn’t able to put it together, the time trial will not be held. It may be rescheduled at a later date.
Ed will meet us at MacGregor Ale House after the ride to celebrate his birthday.
There is a strict start time of 6:00 by the ride organizer. Be ready and lined up in your groups by 5:55.
RSVP by Tuesday, 5:00 p.m. with your riding pace preference if you want to be put in a riding group. This is done to ensure everyone rides with someone at their pace and doesn’t get dropped. With 20-25 riders attending, it has become too chaotic trying to handle unexpected riders a few minutes before the ride while I’m trying to welcome new riders, organize the planned riding groups and get myself ready to ride. If you don’t RSVP so we can plan ahead, you will need to view the list (headcount posted Tuesday after 5:00) and arrive early to find those folks and add yourself to their group.
When: Wednesdays, 6:00 p.m.
Where:
MacGregor Village (http://www.ncbikeclub.org/calendar/ncbcstrt.htm#mcgvl) Cary
Meet in parking lot between Wachovia Bank and Bistro Restaurant. Try to avoid parking near the bank.
Google Maps (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=101+Edinburgh+Dr+S+Cary+NC)
Distance:
Any distance. Ride ½ your time and U-turn, finish at sunset.
Pace: 4 groups
10-12 mph beginners
13-15 mph
16-18 mph
18+ mph
No drop. Me, Michelle or Rick will alternate leading the 10-12 mph group riding behind the slowest rider. Rick will lead the 10-12 mph group this week. Need Lieutenants to help me watch over the 13-15 mph group. Any volunteers?
Cue Sheet (provided at ride)
Contact Person: Zonda
Comments:
RSVP requested to help plan riding groups. RSVP by replying to ride announcement thread.
Slow Spokes join the fast Oh Melo Velo (http://ohmelovelo.dnsalias.org/) riders to lead a slow group. See Ed's website Bicycling 2007 section.
Beginners are welcome to join this ride.
Please arrive in time to prepare your bike to leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. If you arrive late, David or Ed will leave cue sheets on their car back window under the wiper blade.
All riders should carry proper equipment in case they have a flat (spare tube, pump or CO2 cartridge).
It is strongly recommended that you carry your driver’s license and health insurance card in case of an emergency. You may also want to program your cell phone with an emergency contact number under the name “ICE” In Case of Emergency.
New riders should read Bicycling Hand Signals and Safety Pointers (http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=17385)

Ms. Z - count me in for the 13-15 group. I will be solo so I will help where ever. I have not broken the news to my bike that it may have to travel laying down in the back of the truck. But I think it will all work out.

That will be exciting. I am anxious to know how you like it compared to your Roubaix. The geometries are different, so it will be interesting to see how you adjust.
I will be in the back of the pack, so I doubt I will see you after the start.

It is rough now, but who knows what it will be in two hours. I will wait until 5:30 to make my decision. Between now and 6:00 the probability of thunderstorms reduces from 40% to 30%, and it does not go back up again until 10:00. That is just typical North Carolina summer weather- hazy, hot, and humid with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

I just drove back from Raleigh to Durham - through pouring rain in Raleigh and RTP, and drizzle in Durham. Hard to say whether it will clear up, and where.
'Fraid I'm gonna bail - another cross-Triangle trip doesn't appeal if we risk cancelling. But I hope you all get lucky and enjoy your ride!

Just like last year, the weather was questionable and hard to know if we were riding. Some of us chanced it and ended up having a really nice ride. It was hot and humid, but no rain.
Riders 9: Me, Jon T., Andy L., Tommy, Andrea, Wayne A., Tamim, Gerard and Brian A.
Jon T. did a great job as lieutenant and keeping the group together.;) Tommy, Andy L. and Gerard also waited on me and Andrea. Thanks! There were 5 or 6 guys in the fast group who attended.

Elaine, sorry you drove over and we already left for the ride rather that than going to the Ale House. Scott C. also went to the Ale House after 6:00 thinking we would be there. Esther also attempted to make it. Ed and Jeannie also came at 6:00 thinking we wouldn’t ride.
Tamim, 50+ miles on the single speed with the fast group??? Wow, that’s awesome!! We waited in the parking lot for you all to get back then decided to go on over to the Ale House since Ed was already there. Glad you had a nice ride.
16 of us went to the Ale House after the ride to celebrate Ed’s 72nd birthday. Charley, his wife and son also joined us. Ed deserved special attention this year on his birthday since he’s on the mend and can’t ride. I know this is frustrating for him and he was bummed about not being able to have the annual time trial. He’s done a lot for our group, so it’s nice that we rallied and gave him a nice birthday party.
Thanks for coming out!
