Is anyone planning to ride in the NCBC Summer Rally?
http://www.ncbikeclub.org/
I would like to do the 40 mile route, but I do not want to ride by myself.

I am planning on the 40 and ride about the same pace as you; I am about 90% committed right now and will know for sure by Thursday.

I'm doing the 40 mile route with my family, we will go at about a 14-16 mph pace. If any SlowSpokes would like to join us you are welcome to:) :)

I plan to ride the 20 mile route, probably slower than 14mph.
Scott is working one of the rest stops with Jeannie Downing - not sure which one.

At the moment, I plan to ride the 20 mile route. My speed will likely not exceed 9 mph. Therefore, I will wave at all of you in the parking lot.

I'll be there. I'll most likely ride the 40, but if may just do 20 depending on what my afternoon plans are.

I'd like to try my legs at the 40, but will see how the 20 goes first. (Last week was my first time riding for any long distance on the roads with SS and I think we did about 25 miles...even though Rick said it was flat, I was challenged by the flatness.) I'm on my mountain bike and will probably average about 10 mph.

Hi Guys! I might be there...and I might like to do the 40...or the 20...and as always, I'm somewhere between 12 and 15... I just need to find twenty bucks! ;) Same "meet up" in the parking lot like our ride last week?

Bess,
It's is not the lot in the park. From the Website, it looks like the CP&L facility on the left before you reach the park.

What an absolute great day for a ride. So the ride didn't start out great for me another flat. But it ended up perfect....my Grandson decided he wanted to race me after we got on Shearon Harris, I smoke him...not great for his ego, but it sure was for mine. Get these stats, in 1 hour and 53 minutes I went 33.9 miles at 17.2 mph. Wow I was shocked when I got back and took a look. The best thing is I feel great.. It was so good seeing fellow SlowSpokes out there..see you all Wednesday night!

Well, it was a double mechanical day for me. Flatted before the ride start (fortunately about 20 minutes before, rather than 2 minutes before!).
Then, with less than 5 miles to go on the 40, I hit something that broke a spoke on my rear wheel and knocked it way out of true. It was lucky that we were close to finishing - Rob, Rick and Jamie rode back, and Rick sagged me in.
On the plus side, it was a nice route with good weather, and I hit a personal best of 16.7 mph, 35.5 miles, 2:08, though the 6.5 mile wind tunnel on Big Woods brought my average down, as usual. Thanks, guys!
Myrtle is in the shop and should be ready in time for Wednesday night. See you then :) .

My stats were:
Distance: 39.3
Pace: 17.0
Time: 2:19
Thanks, Rob, for helping to pull me back to the finish to get my car. We averaged about 20.4 mph for the last 3.8 miles.
Where Kathy broke her spoke was about where I bonked last year. I only averaged 10 mph for the last 3.8 miles last year.

I did just the 20 mile route.
Not very fast - I am being kind to my knee.
I got a flat about 2 miles short of the rest stop. Called husband, who was working the rest stop - too big a crowd of customers for him to pick me up. As I was unfolding my cue sheet to look at the SAG phone number, 2 folks training for a triathlon stopped and changed my front tire for me.
My husband pumped the tire from 50-ish psi up to pressure when I arrived at the rest stop.
I saw the same 2 folks later, after I left the rest stop and thanked them again.
Scott is still volunteering at the event now - I am at work.

Hey Ya'll!! I did the 40, 2 hours 29 minutes, 14.9 avg. My all time best! I really wanted to break 15!
It was a great day for a ride. Jamie, Rick, Kathy and Rob were the Medium Spokes... I was the only Slow Spoke out there today! :)

I did the 20 with my wife who has just gotten her bike back after being destroyed by an unattentive valet. (bike was on the top of my car and hit a low hanging parking deck; the valet company insurance paid for a new bike, bike rack, and rails so ended up Ok)
There were a few pretty good hils, great weather, and the usual great NC scenery.

That's all from the bike. I'm sure Bess would have smoked us all if she had a pure road bike.
I finished with 16.6 MPH. I don't know the rest. I forgot to take my computer off my bike when I came home, and the drive made my wheel spin and totally changed all the numbers. (after the drive, my average was down to 15.5 :) )

Boyd and I had a good time - the wind kept the heat from the road a bit. We did the 63 miles, average 15.9 that last hill really slowed me down. But finished up great. I was glad we had the recovery drinks in the car. Of course I had a beer with dinner for the carbs as John would say.
