Hi guys,

Just scored what I think is a great deal. It's an older Cinelli steel frame that has been upfit with modern components. Mixed emotions on that - but it is all good stuff. Except for the Campy brakes, it is all DuraAce, Ultegra and 105.

Thing is, the frame has been (poorly) repainted - just slathered it on all over it. Fortunately, the identifier 'Cinelli SC Made in Italy' is stamped/forged in the bottom bracket. Any idea how I can ID what frame this is? I'll cross-post this in the Vintage forum over at Bike Forums too.

When my foot heals, I'll look forward to joining y'all on some rides.
Regards,
Tim

Well it's obviously a Super Course frame. Unfortunately, since it's been repainted (badly) there's no telling what year it was. Apparently there are a few different configurations of the SC bike and since original equipment is missing, we can't ID it. If it's really gnawing at you that you don't know the specifics of the bike, you can always sell it to me . . .:D

hi Tim,
i have an 84' super corsa in th collection. you can at least us it as a comparison in basic construction. many of the nicer Cinelli's actually had a good bit of chrome on them. maybe scratch the paint off the front of the seat cluster to find the chrome underneath.
cheers........B

Is it possible they'd have taken off the chrome before painting? (maybe all pitted/rusted?)

I am going to get it repainted, and I would have it restored/redone/repainted as an SC .. but didn't want to commit any faux pas if it was a poseur and the only SC lineage it had was in fact the bottom bracket :o

it's doubtful that the chrome was stripped prior to painting. i've seen many frames over the years that the paint has been applied over the chrome. the process to remove it is really nasty and most places just won't do it.
