Hi guys,

Sort of an intro here, as I didn't see that kind of a thread(?) I've exchanged a couple PM's with Erica over at Bike Forums (Inscrutable), and she suggested I post something over here (had lurked here for a short while).

Due to an on-going achilles injury and multiple surgeries, I may be giving up basketball and tennis, and try cycling. Some might call this acting my age, but I plan to continue to grow old without growing up. :) Had done just a little road biking in a former life in Far Far Away (where they have paved shoulders on most roads). I haven't done any here since somehow I couldn't reconcile getting healthy with risking death. But the kids are grown and life insurance paid up, so what the heck.

Hope to be off the crutches in a couple weeks ... maybe offer to help with the SAG until I can ride. Look forward to meeting you.
Regards,
Tim

PS. If you have any Cinelli/vintage knowledge please check my post over in Mechanical

Hey Tim! It's about time you finally spoke up and intro'd yourself! :D Welcome to the group. Can't wait for you to be able to join us on a Saturday ride, and like I said, if the cyclepaths disband before you are able to come join us, there is always a few of us around to ride with during the week. :D

Thanks for the bump Erica. Looks like I'll be doing SAG longer than I thought. The orthopaedist wants to treat this like a full rupture again, so I'm on crutches another 3 weeks, and it might be a month or two before they let me off training wheels (stationary bike). But I'd be glad to help with SAG once I can be weight-bearing - should be by mid-August.

Hi Tim,

Welcome to the forum/group. What have you done to your achilles? I'm on limited riding right now due to a knee injury and I'm trying to get back up to speed, but it's slow going. I live in Clayton and will be riding all year long, so if you're looking for someone to ride with after the Cyclepaths stop riding, give me a shout.

I've been riding with JayC & Erica, who are my closest riding buddies around here. Hope to meet you soon.

Karen,
I ruptured my achilles last September (50th birthday actually ... how prophetic), and have had two subsequent operations. It keeps getting infected/reinfected. They surmised it was the permanent suturing harboring a resistant staph strain, so they went back in and tried to remove it all, and I'm on an IV antibiotic. We'll see.

What'd you do to your knee?

Looking forward to getting out. Hopefully we will still have some kind of group that stays on thru the fall, as I probably won't be able to ride until very latre summer. As long as we have daylight that's the best riding time here anyway I would think.

Tim,

Sorry to hear that you've had such a difficult time with the achilles.

I hurt my knee back in May - overuse/over-exertion on a ride to Benson/Coates. Medial side pain/tendernous diagnosed by dr as bursitis/tendonitis. Off the bike for 8wks along w/ PT and I've just now started to ride again. I've found that I've lost quite a bit of fitness in that time:(.

So, I'm now just trying to ride more and get the aerobic system & legs used to mileage again. I need to keep the rides on fairly flat terrain, so most of the Cyclepath rides work well for me (except the last one and the one coming up).

About the only ones that will be riding after the MS150 from this area (Clayton/Garner/Wendell) will be myself, JayC, Erica, & TracyW (at least that's all I know of).

Keep your spirits up! Looking forward to meeting you.

K
