They'd only do that if he won the tour.

There's been an improvement in masking agents over last year's tour.
The whole anti-doping show is to create the impression that the sport
has been cleaned up. Someday we'll learn that people had been gene
doping for years.

Well bugger. I haven't been following the tour this year, but I had
fond memories of Vinkorouv's performance in previous years.

No kidding. I'm really bummed I even started this thread. I actually
googled out another source before it really sunk in. Bother.

I've been following it...and I find this...well, really sad. Frankly, I
assume they all dope and I don't really care....but I hate it when one
person gets caught and kicked out, since you know the rest of the pack are
probably doing it too. They should just forget about drug testing, hassling
riders, etc., and let the race ride on.

Why did the French Police wait until the entire world knows before
"raiding" the Astana team?
From Velo News:
http://www.velonews.com/tour2007/news/articles/12921.0.html
"More than a dozen police officers had arrived at the hotel following the
news of Alexander Vinokourov's positive test for blood doping, which has
led to the team bowing out of the race at the organizers' request."
"The Astana team, the team's bus, and several team vehicles were still at
the hotel. Some of the riders and team staff were also present."

I've been following it too.
When he smoked the field on the TT I was thinking: hmmmmm Vino's not
a TT specialist and he ate them. What's he on?
When I saw him humiliate the field on stage 14 I was going, "Man,
gimmme some of that ****!"
Yeah, I think pharmaceutical companies and bio-research labs should
highlight their products and start sponsoring teams.

errrr... make that Stage 15, one five, as in fifteen. like 5 less
than twenty.
Stage 14 is the stage when he lost over 29 minutes.
That one was sad.

If I knew what Vino knows, I'd be thinking about who to kill for

Apparently, they ALL know something that I don't.
When I dope before riding, I may have a really good time, but I'm

I think the only way to get transparency and credibility back is to
come right out with it. Let everybody know it's 'roid-'droid versus
the supplement stacker versus the gene tweaked freak and see who
comes out on top.
Lilly, Pfizer, Squib etc. are all companies with lots of money they
could use to sponsor pro teams in just about every major sport.
There'd be no negative images for the sponsors if they're drug
companies and their teams are winning.
Think of the advances to be made in medicine and genetic engineering.
Think of the military applications. Let's get going!

I totally agree. I suggest they have two TDFs, one with constant
testing and one without any testing. G-whiz, this is beginning to feel

Somewhere out there is a short SF story by Tom Sullivan (I think)
called "Mickey Mouse Olympics" (or close) that was published in
Playboy (?) in about 1979. And, of course, SNL did a sketch of "the
All Drug Olympics" sometime later (Kevin Neilan era). Good stuff,
both. Seems to me both had fairly negative images for the sponsors,
too.
I love the Tour. I keep hoping we'll either have a clean year, or at
least they'll get all the arrests and recriminations out of the way a
month or more before the prologue. That, and that **** Friggin' Pound
gets found face down in the Olympic Basin in Montreal with a couple of
hits of crack in his vest pocket, or something.

Then it would just end up like Formula 1 with the richest team always
winning as only they can afford the latest drug technologies, rather boring
IMHO.
