hi there,
i have a Giant SCR3.0 road bike which came with an SRAM PG850 8-speed
12-26T cassette on it to begin with.
what i would like to know is can i simply swap it for a SRAM PG830 8-
speed 11-32T cassette? i assume i wont need to readjust my shifters
etc? just simply do a straight swap yeh?
details are as follows:
giant SCR3.0

SRAM PG850 8-speed 12-26T already on the bike

May not have enough chain for a big ring and big cog combo..best thing
to do is swap for a long cage Rder..any shimano MTB type will work
fine and size the chain properly.

Unless the chain is way too long now, it will be too short with the
32. Unless the chain is pretty new, it's not a bad idea to put a new
chain on at the same time as a new cassette anyway. You'll be
exceeding the capacity of the rd, which means you won't able to ride
in the small ring/smaller cog combos because of chain/pulley rub, but
on a road bike you shouldn't really be in those gears anyway.
The b-tension adjustment of the derailer should be adjusted. If the
limit screws and cable tension were correctly adjusted now and the
dimensions of the cassettes were known to be exactly the same except
for the different sized cogs then you wouldn't need to touch them, but
in reality you should always check.

You'll also need a new chain and most likely a mountain bike rear
derailer. Derailer installation is straightforward. Just bolt it on and
adjust according to <http://sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html>.
New Chain & most likely rear derailleur with proper adjustments on
the new derailleur. Rest of system should work fine.
