Hi,
Does anyone have a cue sheet to access this trail? I read that it is somewhere in North Raleigh and you can get to Crabtree Mall via this trail, but I don't know where it begins or where it ends. I know that it's off Yadkin Rd in Raleigh by North Hills but not sure where the trail starts and ends.
If someone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.
Thx,
AngieM

just go the known entry spot & ride both directions. the greenways aren't that long in this town. I think I know which trail this is - I think you would have to go across the narrow wooden bridge to get the access to Crabtree. If you enter @ Yadkin, go west, after crossing the bridge, go left for Crabtree Mall, right for Shelley Lake (although you'll have to "figure out" how to continue on across North Hills Rd).
If this ain't that trail, never mind.
There is a Raleigh Greenway map somewhere on the city or county web-site. You might also be able to get to it from the NCDOT website.

this is the trail I thought it was.
with a couple clever connections on the streets (you may have to have someone show you the major "clever" connection to you - my wife & I only learned it that way - and she grew up in Raleigh), you can ride from Yadkin all the way to Kiwanis Park. I haven't ridden this for a couple years, but a little birdie told me there is now a connection that continues east along Crabtree Creek under Wake Forest Rd.
The other way, you can go behind Crabtree Mall & 2 or 3 miles beyond before running out of greenway. Or you can head up to Shelley Lake (and slightly beyond) & even over to Optimist Park / Sanderson High (if you already understand where those are on the map) - all on greenways (well, a little bit of sidewalk / road).
I suggest you WALK your bike across the narrow wooden bridge w/ the slope and two direction changes in it. I used to slowly ride across, but I thought I may have broken my leg when I fell on damp, slippery wood. I didn't, but I decided it was better to be "uncool" and in one piece than "cool" and not.
I'm going to try to put in a link to the map with the greenways & the Raleigh Bike Routes. If it fails, I'll try backing up on step with the link.
Okay, have to try to link one step prior to the map.

Choose "Raleigh" "Front" (ie, click on "Front") and choose to download. When it finishes downloading, click to re-enlarge. Then navigate.

Thank you for the information I do appreciate it. I'll try to map it out one day and try to make up a cue sheet and then ride and see if I can figure it out. Thanks again.

I can't imagine how one would cue sheet these greenways. Just ride them. It is awfully difficult to get lost - because all you have to do to get "home" is turn around and follow the land-marks you noted on the way to get back to your start.
The bike routes could obviously be cue-sheeted. There is a group that rides the Raleigh bike routes. They have been mentioned, & a link provided to their blog, elsewhere on this forum.
btw, the map is available in real form (not electronic) from Raleigh Parks & Rec (I think).

The bike stores that I have been to in Raleigh have had the paper form of the Raleigh bike routes map. I live in Cary, so I haven't been to that many of the Raleigh stores.

Alleghany Trail starts in North Hills Park on Chowan Circle. Just follow Chowan Circle all the way to the end. The trail head is just past the playground and next to the tennis courts. When you get to the bottom you'll see a sign directing you to Crabtree and Shelley Lake.
Just so you'll know -- it's probably the toughest hill on all the Raleigh or Cary greenways. Be careful on the way down and save some energy for the trip back up....

... Be careful on the way down ...
That ... is an understatement.
