Maybe I'm missing something, but why is this Ed Dolan guy allowed to
post so much weird stuff? I come here to read the latest technical
dialogue, not to spend time filtering through lots of weird Ed Dolan
the Great Mumbo Jumbo. Is there a moderator that can take some kind
of action?
Frustrated,
alan.

Yes, it's you.
Read usenet via pretty any much newsreader (heck, even Outlook Express can
do it), and you can filter out posts - "kill file" is the relevant term.
It's very nice not seeing Ed's posts.

Using Google Groups? Then get the Google killfile script:
http://www.penney.org/category/google-groups
You'll need to have Greasemonkey installed:
http://www.greasespot.net/
It's plonktastic!

There is no moderator. Most newsgroups are unmoderated for a variety of
reasons both philosophical and practical. Because Usenet is
decentralized, moderate newsgroups are difficult to get working. They
also usually die if the moderators stop doing their jobs, which happens
more often than you'd think. That's essentially what killed
rec.bicycles.tech.
As others have said, if you can't ignore Ed the right solution is to
set up a killfile to ignore him for you.

So get a newsreader and use a killfile. Voila, Ed (or anyone else you
choose) is gone from your screen.

No. Welcome to freedom of speech.

Wow, your first name used to be Avery IIRC.

With a decent newsreader and a little work, you hardly ever see him or
the other trolls. He's not the only one, but a good tipoff is that he
doesn't seem to ride a bike and usually does a lot of cross posting to
maximize the response.

In words of one syllable, kill-file.
This has been a public service announcement.

Huh. Seems to me that this group is no more moribund than any other on
usenet. I mean, it's all dead in the water, but this is better than most.

Sure, he's annoying, but how hard is it to not click on his posts?
Just ignore him and he'll go away. Wait, we all ignore him and he
never goes away! Oh well.

Substitute "rec.bicycles.off-road" for "rec.bicycles.tech" and it
makes sense.

We really need a rec.bicycles.mike-and-ed for them to play in amongst
themselves. I would really like to see ED duke it out with the master

Thanks guys. I look at this mostly at work (no problems there) but I

See elsewhere in thread. Steve meant to write "rec.bicycles.off-road",
where legitimate posts are delayed or never make it since the moderators
are off-duty, but the spam still comes through.
