I've been using HEED for the past, oh, year or so now, and haven't had any problems with it. Till...Jay started saying that it was making him thirsty instead of helping. I thought WTF?? I'm not having any problems with it.....but last Tuesday evening, I rode from TGB with my bottles filled with HEED and it was not doing the job.

That's the second time I've ridden using HEED and it didn't do the job. I met up with Jay & Erica at Cletus's store that evening and rode back with them. I split off and took Micro Rd back to Browns Pond (or whatever it's called) and stopped in at a church not far down the road looking to see if there was an outside spigot to fill my bottles with just plain water. There wasn't and they came by and asked what I was doing....Jay offered to let me have half of his bottle of Nuun, as the HEED was just making my mouth all sticky and not quenching my thirst. That was pretty good even tho it was warm.

So...I thought I would try Gatoraid again...that stuff bout made me puke on Thursday...poured it out and went with straight water. Then, I went to REI Friday and picked up some of this Camelbak Elixir stuff. It's lemon-lime flavored and tablet form, similar to the Nuun. 1 tablet per 24oz. It works the same way as Nuun and I've used it both mornings this weekend when I rode. Quenches the thirst, doesn't leave your mouth all sticky feeling either. It's a bit expensive, but I had to have something else and didn't have any Nuun (which I'm gonna get). In a pinch and needing something, this stuff works well.

Oh yea, if anyone wants to purchase an un-opened container of lemon-lime HEED for $15, lemme know. It may work for you, but at this point, it's not working for me and I've got to go another route..

I have found that the orange flavored CytoMax is best for me. I cannot tolerate the xylitol in HEED or the whey protein in Accelerade or Endurox.

It is also important to make sure that the total water and electrolyte intake are in balance. If you are using GU, Powerbar Gel, or another prouct that contains a large amount of sodium, then plain water in the bottle is best. If you use an electrolyte replacement drink (Gatorade, CytoMax, Heed, etc) and have high amounts of electrolytes in the gel, you are getting too much sodium for the amount of water.
