Hi all - I'm new here....
Read on the MS150 site that there were Tuesday evening rides out of Wilson Park in Carrboro - ~20 miles or so - led by Nortel/GSK team but open to all. Looked like it might be old info and I haven't been able to find out any more about it - including start time. Anyone here know?

Yes, they still exist every Tuesday through August. Since the MS150 is September 8 and 9, I doubt the rides will continue after that. I am not sure about September 4, either.

6:16 PM start time.
13-15 mph pace.
No drop.
Lead by Michael Murray and Steve Blanchard.

If you are looking for another ride from Wilson Park, check out the Dog Days of Summer on August 25: http://www.trianglecycling.com/showthread.php?t=21925

Thanks! I'll check out the Wilson park ride today and hope to be able to do the Dog Days ride, too. Looks like fun.

That's OK - now I know where to post next time I wander down Wilson way. :)
Years ago late one night I stumbled upon (well, I was driving) some gigantic outdoor metal sculptures just outside of town. They were all covered in reflectors and caught my headlights as I rounded a bend. You know anything about them? I was lost at the time and never found them again.

BTW - Thanks, RickF - the Wilson Park ride group was very friendly. Nice social ride. Easy pace. Got some good pointers, too.

Whiriligis would be their official name. Check out the info on the fesitval

and the site you mentioned http://www.wilson-nc.com/Whirligigs.cfm

I think they had a bike ride as part of their festival last year. I didn't look at the info too much before sending to you.

Thanks for the links - that was the place. Nice little video on the first link you gave. Reporter suggests that the artist put the sculptures up to "warn motorists of a dangerous curve in the road" - I went off the road when I came around that curve in the dark and my headlights hit those thousands of reflectors! Nice to see he's gotten recognition for his work - his own festival!
Yeah, I know, not exactly a cycling related thread anymore - but worth checking out if you're heading down to Wilson.

MikeR and myself rode in it. I enjoyed it and hope they do it again this year. I do hope that it is a bit warmer this year, the 29 degrees at start was a bit hard to deal with.
