I dimly recall that love was something I used to dream about as a teenager.
Well, that was over half a century ago and it has ever alluded me. I think
it is because it does not exist, except in the dreams of teenagers.

I grow old . I grow old .
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me.

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

Love exists as surely does poetry.

Our strange species depends upon it
to propagate itself.

But for the ordinary man, he doesn't
ever realise how much he pays for it.

One has to be Stoinkingly Rich to be able to say
you don't notice the price of love.

I tell shielas I who I don't think I could love
that I prefer a 4 hour ride on a bicycle.

And not once has any one of them reacted with..
"Well OK...can I come along too?"

Patrick Turner.

Every other animal species manages to propagate itself just fine without the
delusion of love. All that is necessary is sex, not love.

Anyone but me ever notice how most marriages only last about 10 years at
which point you could care less about your freaking wife, and vice versa of
course.

Its is simple. Women (at some point) demand marriage in return for sex.
Men marry for sex, women marry for a sperm donor and provider/protector
for "HER" children. Women often lose interest in sex after having their
brood of brats, which results in the man losing interest in the
relationship. Man finds other outlet for sex and/or asks to end the
relationship. Woman takes man to the cleaners in divorce court.

Many men are even suckers enough to raise other men's children - a good
number of married women get pregnant by someone other than their husband.

It works from an evolutionary point of view, since offspring are
produced, but it is terrible from a human happiness point of view.

But animals are not capable of what we call love.

Anyway, without love sex is impossible for many humans.
You are quite stupid to believe that love is a mere delusion.
There are many people who would agree with me.

Yeah sure, just about all the world realizes love and marriage ain't
forever,
but so what? divorce serves its purpose when you are through with
someone.
Then ppl re-marry, re-partner, whatever.
Some marry 4 times. Good luck to them all I say,
and I hope they can afford it.

Go back to your Bicycle Ed, its safer territory than social science.

I have never heard of a human being for whom sex is not possible without
love. What planet are you from anyway?

But I am telling you that sex is not forever either. It depends on lust
which properly speaking belongs only to teenagers. Hells Bells, the rest of
us are too damn ugly even for lust.

There are only a handful of posters to the cycling newsgroups who are not
idiots. Unfortunately, you are not one of them.

Tom Sherman, for instance is not an idiot, but his political views are
idiotic. I will acknowledge that he is very expert on the subject of
recumbent bicycles. Mike Vandeman of RBS is a genius and is on my level.
Hey, Greatness is where you find it!

Yea, read 'em and weep! Are you perhaps not an Aborigine like most of the

Chris Foster is a mountain biker who believes in desecrating wilderness. He
thinks the wilderness is his playground, never suspecting that it is
actually sacred.

When I hike in the wilderness I am a pilgrim come to pay homage to the
universe which gave me birth and supports me. Cretins like Chris Foster
ought to be banned forever from Nature. Such as him ought to be condemn to
live in such places as The Bronx, my idea of Hell on earth.

So why are you contending with the Great Mike Vandeman on RBS? All he wants
to do is to ban mountain bikes from Wilderness and from Natural Areas. What
is wrong with that?

Amazing how great minds think alike on matters of sex. I couldn't agree more
with Mr. Sherman than on the points he makes above.

The fact is that men and women are very different. I noticed this from my
earliest years. The whole and entire purpose of sex is to spread those genes
around. That is what men are for. However, women are for the birthing and
raising of offspring. They are all about reproduction and not much else.

The bottom line is that men are bamboozled by sex. Women have got it right.
They allow men to **** them, but in the end it is the men who get royally
****ed.

The absolute best and most incisive post from Tom this year. Kudos, Tom

Mike Vandeman blasts his foolish message to MANY news groups, not just
alt.mountain-bike. That is how I initially came in contact with
Vandeman.

When it becomes unlawful to ride mountain bikes, I will back MV
position. Until then, people have the privilege to ride their mountain
bike where allowed. Vandeman wants all bikes removed from all non-paved
areas. I simply do not agree with his position and have told his as
much

This is why most women hate the few women who want to have sex for the
sake of sex - it decreases their bargaining power of what they can get
for sex. Why do you think the "double standard" exists?

It is ironic that prostitution for cash is illegal in most of the world,
since de facto prostitution is so common. The professional is actually
the more moral by far, since she provides an agreed upon service for an
agreed upon price (the very essence of the FREE MARKET), compared to the
deceiving "nice girl" who is merely holding out for a better price
(marriage and the subsequent financial support).

There are millions of miles of forest and jeep roads which are suitable for
cycling. All Mr. Vandeman and I want is that you do not ride your mountain
bikes on hiking trails. The sooner mountain bikes are banned from such
trails, the better.

Even so, Aborigines are very strange creatures to say the least. I wonder if
in fact they are not some kind of very primitive human, perhaps not Homo
sapiens? I noticed in the movie "Quigley Down Under" that the white settlers
hunted them down like wild dogs. Why was that?

Pithy, couldn't agree more.

Well, Hells Bells, it is well known that women will do anything for money
(and status), even sell themselves. That is the very definition of
prostitution. However, a gentleman does not ever want to buy it. I have
never in my life seen a man who does that (buys sex) who was not basically a
bucket of ****.

In the past there have been a few women (remember that Jewish gal from
Alaska) who posted to these cycling newsgroups who pretended to be fancy
free. I soon disabused them of that notion by reminding them that they are,
after all, just women and are not to be compared to us men. Where do some of
them ever get such ridiculous ideas!

We men are monsters and beasts. We always have been and we always will be.
The least a woman can do is just shut up and look pretty. Is that too much
to ask?

I am not responsible for the actions of others. But I would assume they
used the same logic that the white settlers used here in America hunting
the native Indians.

Nay, the Aussies are not like us Americans. They pride themselves on being
fair minded and tolerant above all else. So the question remains, why did
they hunt down the Aborigines like wild dogs?

The present day liberal criticism of our pioneer ancestors just reeks of
hypocrisy. I have no doubt at all that if any of us had been living back
then, we would have done precisely what they did. Yea, we would have thought
that the only good Indian was a dead Indian. Call it bigotry if you must; I
call it commonsense.
