Here's my new toy - just got it today from Cycling Spoken Here in Cary. It's a 17.5" Gary Fisher Piranha.
A few specs from the Fisher web site:
Wheels
Shimano M495 disc hubs; Bontrager Ranger disc rims | Bontrager Jones XR tires, 26x2.2/2.25
Componentry
SRAM X.5 rear derailleur, SRAM X.5 shifters, SRAM X.5 front derailleur | Shimano M442 44/32/22, Octalink crank | Shimano M485, hydraulic disc brakes, 160mm rotors
Suspension
RockShox Tora 302 w/preload, rebound, lockout, 100mm travel
Very nice.. Im surprised you went with a hard tail.. I talked to Charlie about MB selection about a month ago and he told me full suspension was the way to go.. course, he could have had an overstock on full suspensions at the time :)

I rode at Harris Lake & Crabtree. I didn't care for Legend...too many rocks to fall on and get hurt. I'm most likely gonna go back to those places and to Umstead to work on the hills there. Maybe to the North of Raleigh as well.

Holy crap! I was pricing MTBs on BikesDirect.. I had no idea of the markup.
Wow

Oh yea, one more thing....Joel (my hubby) had been mulling over the purchase of a mtb, but decided he would rather spend his money on a new xbox 360 elite with 2 wireless controllers and forza2 game...

Yeah, me too. Though the squad shooters are nice on the consoles. Last game I played on my PC was S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

we're xbox central at my house. 2 xbox's, an xbox 360, an xbox 360 elite. Kyle took a whole buncha games this weekend and traded them in so he could get Gears of War or something like that..i only like the car racing games. let's me drive fast. Brake? what's that? :D I can't wait for PGR4 to come out!
I have 2 of the original Xbox's that I modded and put bigger hard drives in. I use them for streaming media. I dont know when the last time I used them for actual gaming was.
I have a modded PS2 also that I probably mess with more than anything else. DDR and Guitar Hero. My Wii doesnt see much love. I need to get a few more games for it.

OOOOOOOHHHHH!!!!! The double dance, dance pad - advanced!!!!!!! I've never tried the double pad before. I don't personally own dance, dance because if I did I would get nothing else accomplished........ I do have a working Atari 2600 though:D , Frogger anyone?

Hey Erica it's me Artie. You mentioned some MTB trails around the Neuse. Where are they and how do I get to them???

Artie!!!
I'm so sorry for never reading your post asking for directions to the mtb trails. I JUST saw it today. I'm a dork!
OK, so what you will want to do is go to 64biz towards Raleigh and turn down Rogers Lane (thats where the big Sheetz gas station is). You'll come around a corner and up to a stop sign. Take a right at the stop sign to continue on Rogers Ln. Go down til you see some condos on the left hand side. This is just before you will go over a bridge. Dont go over the bridge, take that left. Go to the stop sign, take a right, parking lot is on the left. Park in there and walk with your back to the condos. You will see two entrances to the trails. Take the one to the left. Not even sure the one to the right is a trail so to say. Once you get to the 'end' of the trail, you'll notice it dumps you out on to a dead end road with a pretty severe but short hill directly to your left. Continue on up that hill and the path picks up for several more miles. Its an out and back trip.
Have fun!!
Erica
i shot this to you in a PM too, so hopefully you see it soon. LOL

Karen, I love your MTB! I love Gary Fisher MTBs! My hubby and I also own Gary Fisher MTBs. We had thema while, but they are awesome! He rides the Joshua (1999) and I ride the Marlin (1997). They handle great off road, but putting MTB semi-slicks on the Marlin since I'm back to road biking..."my first true love" as Gary Fisher says :)

nice bike; hard tail means more torque; grrrrr; maybe reduce weight by removing superfluous seat and seatpost; neutral color matches all your kits
you pic shows idler cage at -45 deg. with chain on big ring-big cog; i am rebuilding my 80s mtb and on mild bounces (curbs) the chain slaps and skips; some chain length advice recommends -90 to -80 deg. idler cage with big-big config.; i'm going to try the -45 deg. adjustment to get more tension in the chain
