View Full Version : shim needed on cassette body?

I have noticed that some cassette bodies come with a super thin shim
that seems to be designed to go on the body before the cassette is
mounted thereby keeping the cassette from touching the stops on the
inside lip of the body itself. Is this a generally good idea for
all cassette mountings? and should I be sure that all our wheelsets
have such a thin shim on first?

Generally not needed. shimano 10s cogsets on non DA 7800 freehubs DO
need this 1mm, included spacer. Otherwise, unless can't get the cogset
tight or if the cogs hit the spokes, as in Wheels accelerator cogsets
on some hubs, not needed.
