View Full Version : 23 on front, 25 on back? 700c

I'm trying to use up tires I have laying around. I have a barely worn
Michelin Pro2Race "limited edition" on the front and the rear is of course
wearing fast, plus the "limited edition" seems to cut easier. I have a new
Pro2Race 25mm. Is it unsafe in anyway to run 23 on front, 25 on back
or should I reverse them? 19lb bike, 185lb rider

thanks, Rick

Run them any way you like. It makes sense to use a larger tire in
back, since the rear wheel bears more weight than the front.

I would put whichever tire is in better condition on the front. The
conventional wisdom is to put the narrower tire up front, but there
are reasons for doing the opposite.

Mo problem whatsoever along with a 23 on the back and 25 on the
front..it is NOT any big deal.

Dear Rick,

For fun, you might mount the tires, inflate them, measure the actual
width, and let us know the results.

Cheers,

I ran that combo for a long time. I like 25/28 as well. People might
accuse you of going for that "chopper" look, but you can tell 'em to
suck it.

I use a Kenda Kaliente 23 on the front and a Ruffy Tuffy 28 on the
back. Excellent compromise combo for puncture resistance, comfort
and handling. The Kenda 23 (which actually measures 23mm on an
Aerohead rim) on the front provides for more snap.

An RT 28 on the front tends to get a little bouncy approaching 30 mph
on descents, regardless of pressure. Surprising, can't explain it.
