rust fighter? what is rust fighter? deodorized linseed oil? or the
usual leftover tank latex?
what has/did REI sprayed on the inside of the steel tubing?

Possibly nothing. The vast majority of steel frames won't rust through
in the owner's lifetime anyway, so offering a guarantee would cost
pennies per bike even if the tubing was bare and dry inside.

Warranty against defect in manufacturing. If it rusts, I'll bet that
would fall under normal wear and tear and not be warrantied.

well, i'm not LBS. The 5-6 cheap 1980's asian (Japan Taiwan) imports I
examined are painted inside. The 2007 (Chinese) Redline Monocog is
painted inside.
Are you looking at English bikes? Floating in the harbor?
painted inside but a good coat of white walmart rusto will cure it.

gee whiz Qui si - REI sez 100% guarantee not 95%
but what's with the Weigle? it's latex mailbox saver? or sprayable
linseed. sprayable so the lazy are spared the hassle of dissassemblee?
rumor is 3M is linseed yet deodorized? I wonder improved and
deordorized. I'll askem.
A lot of bike 'chemicals' a real money, makers. The manufacturer takes
an industrail product like Valvo synthetic trans oil and bicycle chain
oil, waters it down, deodorizes, and sells it for 3000% markup in 2oz
bottles. If the 3M is improved linseed (if linseed is improvable?)
then its a knockout for frame saving.
RBT has a infrequent but steady, as F. Drackman who wants a new bike,
registry of "my frame is rusting away what do I do"? steady enough to
ask - is 'painted inside' painted all inside or 75% inside or did the
boys have too much saki with bad squid....
seeing paint inside doesn't warrent the conclusion of rust prevention
only - I see some paint inside.
So what's a poor boy to do? blow $4 on a can of white rusto pre
thinned at wal, dissasssemble and paint inside.
if one has a can of weigle on hand, i suggest a trial. A sheet of
scrap slightly rusted. Spray weigle 1 section, brush linseed one
section, brush linseed let dry then cover with rusto one section.
place in corner, inspect one year later.
Levine sez he's out of 3M, check back later. Levine is 2 for one on
the seam sealer.
