Rear derailleur compatibility

Shimano part RD-M510 (Deore, from a year or two ago) is rated for 8-
and 9-speed use. I plan to use it on a Shimano 7-speed system with the
SRAM PC-58 chains that I use on my other bikes, and from what I've
read, I don't foresee a problem. Does anyone know that it won't work?

Should be fine. I run an "officially" 9-speed Shimano low-end rear
derailleur on my hack bike, which has a 7-speed screw-on block, and old
cheap Shimano Alivio 7-speed trigger shifter. SRAM PC-48 (or could be a 58)
chain.

Thanks, Nigel. Turns out I also use an Alivio 7-speed shifter (1993
vintage) on my snow-bike, so it should work well. Thanks for putting
this to bed.
