I'm looking for a rain cape that folds VERY compact....
I'm thinking silnylon would work best.
I want it not only for biking but to take along for
exercise walking as well
Any advice?

tried ultrex or a breathable poly coated nylon? comfort standard goes
way into another space without condensation and increased body temp.
I have a single layer poly coated rain pant: comfortable tent sleeping
in it at 80+ degrees and rain.

>From a casual search? no. Campmor.com in bicycle offers a cape.
Seattle Fabrics in the preceeding links offers a cagoule pattern
useable as is or moldified to suit with mesh panels - depends on how
wet how cold. I am dubious on cape safety opposed to a tighter cagoule
style.
campmor has breathable's for $40. its hard to DIY beat the Chinese
finished product for price until you go to a DIY tailored garmet with
best quality fabric
outdoor clothing searchs yield - see gore tex - ball crunching prices
- $800 packs, $500 vests so a cape??? try England and East Berlin,
Arcteryx, Patagonia
breathables are more expensive than nylons so if you have breathable $
$$ it's more likely you'll go with a rainsuit of breathable-W/P/B. And
a parka's - cape side openess obviates some breathable advantage but
not all. Goretex is heavy compared to 1.3 oz silnylon but a factor is
rain frequency and time spent wearing it; more time moves to a
breathable.
A DIY parka or cape with open sides can have 1.3 with a breathable or
goretex top back, shoulders, and hood: DIY deluxe
search 'Rochelle Harper' and 'Penny Schwinn' and "outdoor fabrics'
sewing a 1.3 is a 4-5 hour project with a sewing machine maybe 10 by
hand. its no big deal. you learn as you go after reading the available
information - all library available. See seam sealer tape/thread type.
It's not necessary to mentally configure the total project from square
one. Once on board you can sew gortex socks.

less - a 1.3 oz cape/parka lightness may go below the accepted or
tolerated consumer (given 95% of consumers are unbearable pigs) level
in durability- that why light is hard to find.
there is an ultralight backpacking crowd with a light website.

you wouldn't want me to write 95% of ultra light packpackers are
unbearable pigs would you?

awwww! ya gotta take this bs at watchcallur face value, right? In the
category of bike clothing, having been the route for example figuring
out what Dizylene Infermal Mesh Excaliber Plus is or better what it
snot. When a poor innocent comes along asking a stupid question and
too lazy to search for it, I watchucallur take pity on the slob,
chipping in.
I can tell you that but really, if you haven't firgured out what DIMEP
-2oz is, you may not grok it.
As for Campmor, my suggestion to copy and paste the sentence,
gooooogle it - gives what?
a self produced $pinion on the $39 parka.
and I bought one.
If REI or EMS had a better deal, it would $pinion.
I buy cheap on sale stuff from Campmor, never disappointed which is
snot what people say about uh...you know.
my new 29er, still in parts, is a product of RBT links from recognized
experts.

Search: waterproof/breathable parka
9 zillion results including right off an educational result
