I can't find any maps of Virginia's bike route 1 from Fredricksburg to
Dc. Does anybody have one or a link to one?

I am in the process of planning a trip from Charlottesville, to DC. A
map to Fredricksburg from Charlottesville would also be nice

Thanks.

I'll have one on the Virginia Bicycling Federation website shortly, as
soon as I get it back up. (www.vabike.org) Other than that, VDOT has a
state bike map featuring Route 1, which you can order here:

http://www.virginiadot.org/bikemap/

Check back with me in a day or two. I'm working on a VA Bike Routes page
for the VBF site, so I'm collecting information. I don't have anything
for you offhand now, but I will soon.

I was looking for one as well. We should all get together and
collaborate on a Google map of the thing. I know the area where I
live, but not much else. Any takers on the project? I think google
has a shared functionality where we could collaborate. If not, some
one could coordinate various folks inputs via individual google maps.

Steve and anyone else who's interested,

People are collaborating already! We (at the Virginia Bicycling
Federation) have been working on this with Jake Helmboldt at VDOT (our
state bike coordinator). We could certainly use help verifying the route
in your area, and anywhere else you'd care to explore. Let us know if
you'd like to join the effort. I personally haven't been working on this
except to put people in touch. The most involved at VBF have been Bud Vye
and Champe Burnley. Champe even talked about organizing an "official"
tour to check the whole thing out.

So if you're interested in helping, let me know and I'll pass the word.

Python:

From DC to Richmond you can either follow the VDOT county maps (kind
of a pain) or buy a copy of this:

http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/atlanticcoast.cfm?pg=detail&s=3

North of Richmond to DC, Route 1 and the Adv. Cycling routes are,
essentially, the same

South of Richmond, the Adventure Cycling East Coast Route diverges
from teh old Route 1.

Through Richmond, the actual route has been recently modified to avoid
several heavily congested areas (including Route 147 and the Hugenot
bridge.)

I'm working with several folks to try and verify the actual route vs.
the signage and putting together cue sheets.
