I just turned on the TV and happened to see the end of this movie:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0171182/
It is a murder mystery set during the Tour de France. It seemed quite
accurate in terms of reporting cycle racing circa 1948. It is being
shown this week on the French cable channel C Cine Classic.

I've seen it a long time ago and I'd love to see it again. Not because it's
good (it isn't), but because it is indeed quite accurate of reporting cycle
racing in 1948, as you said. It was filmed during the Tour of 1948, and one
of the scenes - a sprint in Bordeaux - was shot half an hour before the real
finish. To make it as natural as possible, the public was not informed, with
the result that the 26.000 spectators rode to their feet and started to
applaud when a peloton entered the stadium. Some of them might have been
surprised that the yellow jersey was in the leading group instead of 10
minutes behind - as had been announced - and that the `actor', ex-rider
Mithouard, didn't look at all like Roger Lambrecht, the real leader in the
GC, but it didn't spoil it a bit.

OK, thanks for the info. I liked the last scene where the cornered
murderer is yelling "get off my wheel!" to the police. I was wondering
if you wanted me to tape it for you. If so, send me mail and I'll send
a cassette.
