I emailed Gary Fisher bikes for an update on the Simple City. The Simple
City (
http://www.bikegallery.com/trek-world-08-gary-fisher-simple-city.php ) is a
new bike for 2008. Fenders, big basket, chainguard---a nice errand
bike/grocery getter. According to the rep at Fisher, the bikes will be in
stores in March 2008. Dealers are going to get catalogs at that time, which
seems kind of weird. Baskets will be optional.

In the past, The Bike Gallery in Portland has been the _only_ Trek
dealer in the U.S. to get some Trek models of city bikes. Hopefully
things will be different this time. Bike Gallery is a great store. I
stopped there once on a business trip to Portland, to buy a Burley
trailer, which they sold for more than $100 less than other bicycle shops.

How about a crap design that's going to handle like a pig if you put
more than10# of groceries on that platform? You want a front loader
will real capacity, then you have to use a smaller wheel up front to
lower the load. The rest of the world figured this out long ago, shame
Fisher can't take inspiration from those that have already undergone
healthy evolution.

The Bike Gallery stores are owned by Jay Graves, one of the champions of
bicycle advocacy in this country. An amazing guy who doesn't just talk, but
gets things done.

IMO, Trek/Fisher is just cashing in on the "Porteur" fad going around
of late (too many dolts reading Heine's rag, "BQ").

It does seem that the Kogswell P/R handles nice heavy front loads with no
problem, landotter. It's not about wheel size-----it's about trail. If
Fisher has built their bike with low trail there will be no problem. Your
assertion does not take into consideration the French Porteurs that had two
wheels of the same size but were used by newspaper delivery people to carry
heavy loads at high speeds. You're not exactly correct.

The Simple City is not a "cargo bike". It's an errand bike.
