View Full Version : Ed Dolan - the Great and Good Troll! The Saga Continues!
Edward Dolan
12-31-1969, 08:00 PM
I would say that 90% of all trolls to be found on Usenet are vulgar and
disgusting, if not downright criminal (Ed Gin comes immediately to mind).
However, there exists one mighty exception to the above rule - and that is
Ed Dolan, the Great and Good Troll!
What Ed Dolan does on these freaking-cycling-newsgroups (all one word) is
beyond what can be expressed without becoming maudlin. He will shut up when
you are being sensible and reasonable (a rarity on these groups) and he will
only sally forth like a great and good troll when you are being stupid and
irascible (which is most of the time).
Let's face it, most of you have not been called blockheads since you were
teenagers and part of a cohesive social group who knew you for the jackasses
that you are. But I am here to do pricisely that - and for free too! It is
a mark of My Greatness that I do not expect any thanks for my contributions.
I consider it part of my noblesse oblige as a superior human being that I
bestow this honorarium freely on my inferiors. Yea, it is a thankless task,
but if I don't do it, who will?
These newsgroups are greatly enriched by my presence if I do say so myself.
Even Jim McNamara, an insignificant weasel, acknowledges my Greatness by
constantly stalking me. Yea, I am like a mighty whale with lots of little
fishes following in my wake.

=x= An interesting accusation from somebody who incessantly
crossposts to multiple newsgroups in order to get attention.
> Yea, I am like a mighty whale with lots of little fishes

=x= While this metaphor aptly capture the effect of Dolan's
contributions to any and every thread he joins, on closer
inspection it's clear that these are not little fish at all:

And, you fit in nicely since, by your own admission, you are a troll

disgusting.

What we have here is a classic example of a logical fallacy known as a
Non Sequitur ("It does not follow") aptly demonstrated by Ed Dolan
when he states, as a conclusion, that which does not strictly follow
from the premise. Ed Dolan should not be so quick to flatter himself
although I do acknowledge his GRATEness.
> Yea, I am like a mighty whale with lots of little

An interesting inference since large whales excrete two percent of
their body weight or tons of fecal matter each day which approximates
the quantity of crap that Ed Dolan deposits daily in cyberspace
newsgroups. One would think that by now, even the obtuse, irrelevant
Ed Dolan would be growing weary of the regurgitated, truculent,
effluvia that he posts ... ad nauseum.

There's nothing worse than an Erse
Socrates.
Ed has much to offer, and gives it freely.
It's between the lines.
He's not terribly literarily articulate,
but his message sorta gets through, if ya
squint a li'l at it.
Being too full of one's self is not a good
thing. And it's certainly unflattering.
Don't be like Ed.

Ed Dolan the Great does not care a rat's ass about being literary or
anything else high-minded. Hells Bells, that would be totally wasted on
these newsgroups. He does care about kicking you in the ass since that is
where all of you live 90% of the time. If and when any of you ever get any
brains, there will be time enough then to decide how to deal with you.

Ed, you're a constant source of amusement.
With yer bum leg/foot, I doubt you can do any ass-
kicking. I suggest you instead love us all to death.
Well, I guess for some folks, you can stick pins
into Voodoo effigies of 'em, if that's what turns
yer crank. Another thing you could do would be to
bake a bunch of gingerbread men, use an icing syringe
to write the names of your various Nemeses across
their gingerbread torsos, and bite their stoopid
li'l heads off. Maybe spit some out after you do so.

The literati as well as scholars in general are some of the most stupid
folks you will ever meet in real life. Frankly, I will take old Harry of
Lincoln, Nebraska any day of the week and twice on Sunday. The main thing in
life is to be a gentleman. You can be as dumb as a post as long as you are a
gentleman. And it goes without saying that a woman who is not a lady is a
tramp and a whore and not worth mentioning, at least not in the same
sentence as Saint Edward the Great.

I maintain that these cycling newsgroups are composed chiefly of
exceptionally stupid folks. I thought ARBR was the pits until I investigated
the other cycling newsgroups. Hells Bells, they are even worse than ARBR!
These cycling newsgroups are all snake pits of ignorance and
blockheadedness. You would have to go to the back side of the moon to find
its equivalent anywhere in the universe.

Opinion stated as fact ... as usual. Jim not only got out of "logic
101", but profited from it. Perhaps if Ed Dolan attended a course in
logic, the methodical process of valid, logical reasoning would not
continue to exceed his poor powers of perception.
As he is so found of saying, Ed Dolan had learned everything that he
ever needed to know by the time he was out of high school, so college
and learning experiences in life have apparently taught him nothing
further. Tis a shame that Ed Dolan is seeming content to wallow in a
stagnating state of arrested cerebral development.

All of that is wasted on Usenet. There is no one here except us scofflaws
and idiots. I have enough brains to realize this; apparently, Jim McNamara
doesn't.

Ed Dolan the Great learned everything he ever needed to know about Usenet
from Tom Sherman. Also, old Slugger taught
Ed Dolan a thing or two about idiocy of which he was not previously aware.
Ed Dolan continues to think that Jim McNamara is not at all a bad writer,
but he needs to guard against his tendency to profligacy. That is fine with
some other forums, but not Usenet.

I am constantly making fun of myself - and trying to get others to see
themselves in the same light. Very strange that you cannot see this! You are
too serious by half. Usenet is for fools and charlatans. I KNOW that, you do
not.
Think back on your feud with Ed Gin. You should be laughing about it. If you
are not, there is something seriously the matter with you.

PROFLIGACY??? ... The trait of spending extravagantly or dissolute
indulgence in sensual pleasure??? Not sure which I am being accused
since neither seem to describe my lifestyle.

Opinion stated ad fact. You are confusing Usenet with Abusenet.

You use 3 or 4 words (adjectives) where 1 or 2 would suffice. I am somewhat
prolix too. Tom Sherman has got it about right. I continue to be amazed at
how a mere engineer can write such good English.
I have spent my life reading and never writing anything. I think Tom Sherman
may have spent his life writing and never reading anything. Maybe that
explains why he is such a good writer. We would both make good editors
though, something that you could never do in a million years because all
words are of equal importance to you. Your thought becomes entangled with
verbiage. Try to remember that less is more and you too may become a good
writer some day.
Hemingway was a first class jackass in every way that mattered, but he was a
good writer because he knew that less is more. It came from his days of
being a newspaper reporter and he never forgot it. Compare Hemingway to
Faulkner and you will immediately see what I mean. Better yet, read Lord
Byron if you would like to learn the meaning of "interminable".

I am assuming the above was said with tongue in cheek. If not, please see a
psychiatrist as there is something seriously the matter with you. Ed Gin was
a criminal vandal troll, but he was more or less a normal person in a scummy
sort of way. He is actually easier for me to understand than you. He was not
obsessive and you are. You are far stranger than him.

Here is Jim McNamara at his best. He has played on words to good effect. In
fact, he has done something that I would never have the talent to do myself.
He should do more of this and less pure stalking, which leads nowhere and is
a dead end. I leave myself wide open to these kind of ripostes and I enjoy
them as much as anybody.

Since Ed Dolan seemingly values only his own opinion, here is your
opinion in his own words from the past ... "Jim, I am saving your post
to My Documents. It is a masterpiece! I admire your style enormously.
I am taking notes and hope someday to be able to emulate you."
Non one contradicts himself as much as Ed Dolan does. The conundrum
continues.

Nothing tongue in cheek about it. Ed Dolan SERIOUSLY considers Ed GIn
to be the criminal vandal troll that destroyed ARBR (his words, not
mine) and he continues to castigate and condemn the man and yet
because I indicated that I took my cyber skirmish with Ed Gin
SERIOUSLY, Ed Dolan assets that I am in need of a psychiatrist???.
How peculiar!!! If Ed Dolan, by his sown admission, is having
difficulty understanding me, then there is nothing that he can
possibly say about me with any degree of certainty or validity not
that this will in any way as a deterrent. The conundrum continues!

Yes, I think that is the only way to ever become a good writer - to write
what others are going to read. I have read fine literature for most of my
life but that will not make you a good writer. You have to write - period!
The more you do it, the better you get.
A good small liberal arts college will require you to write original
compositions every day. But I am a product of a large state university
(University of Minnesota) which only required that you know how to take
multiple choice tests upon which you are evaluated and graded. I have often
thought that most teachers are too lazy to ever want to read student
compositions as it is very hard work to do that.
I like to watch the city and county government meetings on the local TV and
I am always impressed by how smart the engineers are. They are the only ones
who seem to know anything. They have reams of reports and papers to present
and they also know how to talk intelligently about whatever is under
discussion.
Mr. Sherman seldom makes any mistakes in his messages and the very few
mistakes that he does make are the kind that only literature snobs like me
would ever notice. Mostly, these newsgroups are made up of total slobs who
do not care what their messages look like. This is a big mistake as you are
judged by how you appear, whether in person or in writing.
Mr. Sherman is the best writer I have ever encountered on these cycling
newsgroups. He is not as inspired and as original as some others, but he is
uncannily correct. Correctness counts for a lot with me, but it is not
everything. I appreciate anyone who writes honestly from the heart.
I will make allowances for folks that I think are working class. After all,
they have enough problems in life without trying to compete with dilettantes
like me. But if I think you are educated and are still behaving like a slob,
then I will take you to task. You will be expected to live up to your
education.

Poor Jim continues to misunderstand the conventions of Usenet. Every message
is sui generis even on a single thread let alone on other threads. This
means it is possible to redeem yourself or condemn yourself with each and
every message. Hells Bells, if I didn't think that, I would not stay here a
single day.

like Ed Gin.

You took it too seriously. You prolonged something that was strictly
personal between the two of you. Ed Gin was telling you in his own loutish
way to go **** yourself, but you were too dense to know what he was telling
you. Why were you remonstrating with someone as loutish as him? Just because
your delicate ego was bruised was no excuse to carry on like you did.
When someone tells you to go **** yourself, then you tell him to go ****
himself back. That is the one and only retort. I learned that by the time I
was out of kindergarten.

The only conundrum here is you. My every message to these newsgroups just
drips with tongue-in-cheek, including any that have you as the subject. I
even make fun of myself. Everyone has gotten my drift by now except you. How
do you explain such denseness?

Ed knows little about the convention of Usenet which he violates at
will. What we have here is an example of Ed contradicting himsel in
order to justify contradicting himself. What's that you ask? Well
just look at what the man has has said in the past...
"I will stand by every message I have ever posted to Usenet, bar none.
Some of my posts will require some explanation no doubt, but I can
defend and justify everything I have ever said to anyone."
But does Ed Dolan stand by all that he posts? Well ... NO!!!.
Instead, when convenient to do so, Ed Dolan issues his sui generis
defense (escape clause). No how does Ed Dolan's sui generis defense
serve to defend and justify what he has said (written) to anyone. No
matter what kind of spin Ed Dolan vainly attempt to put on this, the
fact remains that "sui generis" is merely a thinly disguised, fanciful
diversion. IN other words ... a cop-out!

This was never about ego. To not defend oneself against the onslaught
of accusations would have been tantamount to admission of the
accusations I had no intention of just sitting on my hands. Yes it
was personal, but when Ed Gin ported the personal feud into not one,
but multiple forums, I felt obligated to defend myself. Frankly I
don't comprehend why you have difficulty understanding that. I
understood perfectly well what Ed Gin was doing and saying, but that
is behind me. I've let it go. Why haven't you? You consistently
bring up the past. Has a week gone by without you writing something
about the destruction of ARBR, Ed Gin and the criminal vandal troll?.
Have you ever once experienced closure and moved on in life?

Lets' see. Ed wants to be taken seriously, and yet claims that he
says (writes) everything tongue-in-cheek. In other words, facetiously
(in a clever amusing tone). I'm thinking that there are those who
have been on the receiving end that would take issue with that
assertion. Even Ed himself has written ... "All I ever want to do is
to defeat and humiliate you...", and that is tongue-and-cheek)?

This newsgroup (ARBR) needs to be eternally reminded of why it is now so
feckless and listless. Ed Gin destroyed ARBR and it has never recovered.
Some of the members who stood by and let it happen are still here and they
need to have their dumb asses kicked about every week or so lest they
forget.

What we have here is a classic enigma of self-contradiction. Ed Dolan
can be regarded in one of two ways ... either seriously or not. He
often cautions that he should not be taken seriously since all that he
says is tongue-in-cheek. It is logical to assume then that Ed Dolan
should neither expect nor demand to be taken seriously. This does,
however, introduce a perplexing incongruity in the interpretation of
Ed Dolan's own directive. Why should one take Ed Dolan seriously when
he requests not to be taken seriously since his request should be
interpreted as tongue-in-cheek??? I don't even think Ed Dolan can
answer that one since his response would also be tongue-in-cheek.

I think Ed Dolan just told himeslf to get fu____ ... well you know.
Any way, diversion duly noted ... and anticipated. Told you all that
Ed Dolan could not possibly address and/or resolve the enigma
presented. Now as for his response goes .... if all is tongue-in-
cheek, that makes it rather difficult to accept his reply at face
value, now doesn't it? Yep, that's the very engima that I was
referring to. You just don't know what to believe from the guy
anymore. I mean maybe when he says that all that is said is tongue-in-
cheek is itself tongue-in-cheek, meaning not tongue-in-cheek at all.

I am bent on the destruction of all of Usenet, or at least of all those
newsgroups that are unmoderated. Whoever heard of anything so stupid as to
permit just any old jackass in the world to post a message for others to
read without being properly screened by a superior intellect such as an
editor or a moderator - or Myself! Will wonders never cease!
ARBR is the dumbest newsgroup that has ever existed, but the other cycling
newsgroups are not far behind. Anyone doubt this? Just go back and read the
Jim McNamara-Ed Gin dialogues of a couple of years ago and you will be
convinced.
One thing I do know for sure - anyone with any brains has long since left
the world of Usenet. If you are still here, then draw your own conclusions.

right you say everything tongue-in-cheek, so then your intention to
destroy all of Usenet (good luck by the way) is also tongue-in-cheek.

Ed Gin, the criminal vandal troll, destroyed ARBR for all practical
purposes. I am here merely to administer the coup de grace.
A small newsgroup is easily destroyed, especially when you have no one on
them but cowards like Tom Sherman and Jon Meinecke who take a powder when
the going gets rough. Jim to his credit is not a coward, but his stalking of
the Great One is not doing the group any good.
If this newsgroup had had a moderator, there is no way Ed Gin would ever
have gotten access to the group. He was booted off of BROL and for good
reason. He and his Chicago clique once had their own website and it was a
disgrace and bordered on being criminal. Tom Sherman, knucklehead that he
is, thought it was all just good clean fun. But everyone left the group
except for the three of us. So now enjoy the fruits of Ed Gin's game why
don't you!
I say **** ARBR and all who post to it. May what happened to ARBR be an
object lesson to the other cycling newsgroups.
