Hey I was wondering if the GPS cyclometers out there live up tho their billing. I've seen a couple of web sites where you can download local routes (MapMyTri.com, MotionBased.com).
Thx

Several of us here have the Garmin 305s. Its the best thing since sliced bread for a cycling computer.

Hi JayC,

I have an older Garmin Etrex Legend that I take cycling sometimes. I've seen the 305 but haven't had a chance to look at its features. How does it work as far as displaying a map and helping you get where you're going? Can you download maps to it? Does it come with map software (mine didn't - I had to buy that seperately).

Just curious because the display on the 305 looks smaller than the one on my model. It seems just large enough to be useful for looking at maps.

Thanks,

Scott C.

The 305 doesnt do anything with maps really. You can build and preload courses tho for rides and it will give you turn by turn directions. Building courses used to be a major undertaking but its gotten really simple. There are a bunch of online tools that you can use now that make laying out courses really easy.. some of them put the road names in there and most of them put in the turns for you.

Jay - would you have any idea why my cursor no longer shows up on these routing tools? the only one that i can see either a "hand" or actual cursor is tracks4bikers. all other routing tools, the cursor disappears once over the map area...very frustrating...usually wind up having to use mapsource and this is a PITA.
