This thread may be of interest to users of Umstead Park...
After parking was recently eliminated from the Graylyn entrance to Umstead State Park, many fellow park users (runners, hikers, mountain bikers, dog walkers) have had concerns about the continual loss of safe, convenient access to the park. The Reedy Creek entrance access had already been eliminated after the paving of Reedy Creek Road . This leaves just one access remaining in Raleigh off of Highway 70 requiring additional driving to simply get to the parking area. Currently, there are two accesses in Cary but with plans to pave Old Reedy Creek Road , its future as an access seems uncertain.
A few of us are unwilling to accept this without communicating our dissatisfaction to the the powers that be. One way of doing this is via a petition. Please consider signing the Access Umstead petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/609803273 The goal is 1000 signatures to be sent to our state, city and county representatives.
