Well, I was sick Friday night and still didn't feel too good Saturday. I just pretty much laid around Saturday, not feeling like doing anything nor eating. But, this morning, I got up, felt like eating, had a good breakfast and was thinking about riding. It was 29F with the windchill 19F at 11am this morning.

I thought, what the heck, I have enough clothes, I'll just bundle up and go for a ride. I hadn't ridden since Wednesday and was really itching to ride. I wore a Craft ls baselayer, ss jersey, fleece-type ls top, PI Gavia jacket, polartec-type neck gaitor, PI beanie, PI shorts, Performance Triflex tights, 2 pr wool socks, toasties, booties, and Lands' End fleece lined windproof gloves. I overdresssed in the torso and underdressed on my legs. Prolly could have done without the fleece jersey, but I think I might buy a Craft baselayer tight to wear under the Triflex or other tights. Toes were cold because I forgot to loosen the toe strap on my shoes.

Anyways, left the house and went for a ride out towards Hwy 70, to E Garner Rd and back through town to the house. It really wasn't that bad. Honest. I kept my ears and face pretty much covered, so there wasn't very much exposed skin and once the toes warmed, I felt like I could have ridden longer. At least I now know I can ride in temps that are colder than 35-40F. That would feel downright balmy compared to today.

I'll try to post up the couple of pics I took, but here's me before the ride, going Ninja style:

If youre going to ride in this weather, you should look into one of those bases with the Goretex stuff in the front. I rode with that on Friday and it was absolutely AMAZING.

Here it is.

Friday wasn't all that cold after lunch was it? What else did you wear? Were you too warm or just about right?

It got chilly towards the end of the ride.. Id say in the 40s. I was okay except for my arms. My torso was great.. I had on a long sleeve jersey (Not a wool one), that base and the Vagabond jacket.

On my legs I had the Izumi Amphib tights, which I think are superior to the Performance version although probably not by much. Shoe covers with Toe-sties in the shoes and the Woolerator socks. My feet were really comfortable.

Just a plain pair of bibs underneath it all.

were your legs cold or at all chilly? these performance triflex tights are warm, but invariably my legs are always cold. i might have to look into getting the PI amfib's cause i'm not sure i could get the stuff on with a baselayer tight on..
