For city travel on a "vintage" (read: junker) road singlespeed:
moutain bike, drops, moustache, cruiser, bull-horn, ape-hanger,
traffic, and possible configurations there of.

Traffic bars seem to be adequate, eliminating the awkward width of mtb
bars (you don't really need that leverage) and the weird curves of
drops at low speed maneuvering.

Comments?

Traffic bars = North Road bars? NR was (is?) on the 3 speeds for years.

wierd curves of drops? did yawl chose the wrong route again? develop
yawl's counter steer!
seriously, a LWB touring bike may be at a disadvantage in town but a
normal 21-22cm sports tourer?
I find the MTB a serious drawback: manuvers lacking power. And
sometimes (there're loaners) a goon shows up reminding that 'Muh
buddy' would rather not see me cycling across his lawn, again.

North Road bars, at around 20" and swept back to keep you upright, are
the ideal city commuting bars.
75+ years have proved that.

I _think_ he's talking about straight bars cut off really narrow.
