Who buys this stuff? I was looking in the newest CC catalog, they want
$260 for an Assos windbreaker vest. An Assos undershirt is $120 (vs.
$12 for an equivalent polypro undershirt from REI). They have a jersey
for $320.

Why folks who want to take it in the Assos, of course!

The more it costs, the more the Masters Fattie wants it.

the worst is when you see someone wearing the bibs ... on the outside
of their jersey. or without a jersey.

one day I came up one one such guy, and was in a generous mood. I
rode up alongside and said, dude, I'm going to give you some friendly
advice that is worth way more than those shorts cost ...

There are a lot of high end bike shops all over the country that move a
bunch of this clothing. Racers are not generally the market for this level
of merchandise. But, I can tell you with certainty that there are a lot of
folks in cycling out there that have the disposable income and enjoy buying
this brand and others like it. The situation is very much the same with
cars. Both the Ford and Porsche will get you to the affair at the same time
on the same roads. Both drivers are correct. Each has a good reason for
driving what they do.

Wear what works for you... I'm just saying that riding naked when there is
slush on the ground is not a good thing.

Perhaps Rock should buy Assos (the company that is).

I have two "medium" priced jerseys, they're the best I've ever had.
Given the fact that my typical jersey lasts about 10 years, it's not
too expensive. Basically, they're much better than other companies
plain jerseys, e.g., Pearl Izumi. On the other hand, I like the PI
shorts which seem just as good to me and cost less than half the
price. The Assos winter line also seems like a waste, as their clothes
are too specialized and not modular enough. You can get the equivalent
of their Winter heavy coat by layering an ordinary jersey, arm
warmers, and a vest, for much less money and in a more versatile
format which works for almost all weather conditions from 5C to 35C
(as opposed to the heavy coat which only works for < 10C).

It helps if there's a spurious argument that it makes you faster.
Something like "Due to the high thread count, the fabric is especially
heavy causing gravity to give you that extra BOOST on descents."

Assos isn't the Porsche. It's the $300 jeans you need to wear while
driving it.

Maybe the high thread count causes some microcavitation, forming a
turbulent layer of air around the fabric, making the rider more
aerodynamic, analogous to the dimples on a golf ball.

Yay! ASS.os needs to hire LANCE or maybe the Olympic Team to wear some
of their ****.

I've seen defense of it in some Fred Forums where users claim it is
sooo much more comfortable than anything else and the rest of us,

As an official RBR Fred (after all, I haven't been
keeping track of my yearly miles to keep up with TK)
I have to out myself here. I have an Assos jersey,
some kind of heavy polyester knit long sleeve item.
Pretty sure I got it at a swap meet, because I can't
afford whatever it actually cost. Anyway, I admit that
it is well made and really nice material, sort of fleecy
on the inside. I wouldn't say it was worth four times
more than a typical Voler team kit long-sleeve jersey
though. Never tried any of the legendary expensive
shorts.

I also bought a Assos winter cap as a birthday present
(for someone who lived in the Great Frozen North, where
you need a good hat) and it was quite nice, but at $30 it
was about the only Assos item a mortal could afford. It
probably costs $100 now after what GWB has done
to the $/Euro exchange rate.

But with a Prince will I still be allowed to wear my bibs over my T-

Those are cool too. I stopped using mine for a while when the spolier
on my helmet kept getting caught on the hose. Then somebody told me it
was the visor, and I was wearing it backwards. Now I can use the
camelbak again! I wear it under my shirt to be more aero.

No, Mark and Steve, it's Herb, former LIBC member. I know John and his
responses on this ng, so his answer doesn't surprise me. Affectionate, I
think not.

As a proud Fatty Master, I have a pair of Assos bibs that I won in a
raffle. I would agree that the fit and material is a notch above your
typical PI or Voler. That said, the pad was designed in a way that
feels fine on the bike but feels like a giant wedgie when you were
walking around.

Did you pay your sales tax on that or are you a scofflaw/criminal who

Voler is crap. I have thought Giordana was very good for mid-priced
stuff, although I don't know if it is still mid-priced. For the stuff
I bought way-back-when, the quality of basic things like elastic was
apparently excellent in Giordana as it did not break down.

It is the FED who has caused that and what executive was in power when
the FED was created, and what was the party of the executive then?

I'm not defending the neo-con propensity to run budget deficits, BTW.

Interesting. That supports the theory that Assos offers superior
comfort on the bike, but clearly they haven't taken into account the
critical need for comfort in the coffee shop. Room for improvement
remains.

It's important that they do that since the true Masters Fattie
includes coffee shop time in the training logbook.

That's why I use underwear when I ride. I recently switched to breifs
because the boxers looked funny under my bibs. Maybe I should use a
thong?

Can I get credit from TK for the rolling mileage

So it's "arrogance" to take some verbal pokes at elitist twits? Yeah,
JT doesn't suffer fools gladly, but he's better than a lot of other

Ebay is an amazing Fred Outreach resource for racers. Even used shorts

Ebay is great if your putting together a retro kit, and
80's retro is where it's at now.
